Buffy the Vampire Slayer - musical soundtrack, 'artist' vs 'recording artist'?

hi,

i was just looking at this release group for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More With Feeling’ (a soundtrack album of the musical episode of a TV show):

on some of the releases, for example this one, all the tracks are listed with ‘Joss Whedon’ as the artist:

but on others, such as this one, the actual singers/actors are listed as the artists:

the second example makes a lot more sense to me, since Joss Whedon wrote the works, but he didn’t sing on any of the recordings.

but i don’t want to dive in and start submitting a load of edits here, since i’m still new and don’t really know what i’m doing, so… can i ask for some advice here? what’s the correct way to credit these releases?

Looks like someone trying to apply “Classical Style” to a pop\rock album.

This would really fall under whatever guidelines there are for musical theater.

“Track Artist Credits should be as listed on the release. In most cases this will be the writers”
I don’t see the writers listed in the track listing. Therefore I would do it like in the second example. Actually, it should be {artist} credited as {role}.
