Brand X Music label

Help me to understand… In my practice it has always been that every (sub)label had its own catalogue number (prefix), so albums grouped accordingly, but here there is something different.

Here is the info from labelrecherche.gvl.de:

So far it seems logical.

But if we open sourceaudio we could see that the albums grouped differently, so for example Trailer category has both BXM and BXMT, while there are no BXMA, BXME or BXML prefixes. So what to do?

  1. Assign all albums to the main/parent Brand X Music and dont use sub-labels at all.
  2. Assign labels based on how they presented at souceaudio ignoring actual album catalogue numbers, i.e. all albums in Trailer category receive “Brand X Music-Trailer” sub-label and so on.

Sourceaudio is constantly updated, we can see new albums there, while i am not sure how is actual the info from labelrecherche.gvl.de.

Labels can structure their catalogue numbers as they see fit, so I don’t see that there can be a strict general rule about cat. no. prefixes.

I don’t see why the labels shouldn’t be used as given in this case.

There are of course labels that have strict patterns, and if that’s the case they can help to identify the proper (sub) label, especially if the label is not indicated otherwise.

Thanks. I thought about this general rule, but if there no any then ok, i will use the pattern at which they grouped on their site.
