The bot adds Latin-script aliases for CJK artists who have an established English name on Wikidata / English Wikipedia / official sources but no alias on MusicBrainz yet. Each edit cites ≥2 independent sources in the edit note.
Upfront — we made 125 edits before realising we should have requested the Bot type first. A community member kindly pointed it out, we’ve paused the bot, and we’re now doing it properly. Sorry about that.
The bot doesn’t vote on any edits, logs in every run, and the daily volume stays well under the limits. Happy to adjust anything based on your feedback.
I have marked the bot as such now. The edits I did check seemed sensible, but I’d be happy to have some other community members take a look and maybe help check the edits for a while
I looked at the Chinese edits and they look fine. Except maybe this one: Edit #146629124. The artist is a group and sometimes the English primary alias is a transliteration, and sometimes a translation. As the edit note itself says, “Hei Ya Zi” is the version printed on releases, not “Hei Yazi”. (Perhaps fix the sort name too?)
Quick update — went through all 30 CJK aliases. Fixed:
黑鸭子 → Hei Ya Zi
유리상자 → Yuri Sangja
马思唯 → Ma Siwei (was glued as “Masiwei”)
滾石群星 → removed (it’s a compilation tag, not really an artist)
The pattern was basically: bot was correctly spacing individual artists (surname + given name), but missing the rule that group names need syllables spaced. Will fix that in code before restarting. Thanks again for the heads-up!
