BBC Proms series

In the series The Proms, there are subseries for each individual year, such as Proms 2022 and BBC Proms 2024.

To me, this seems wrong because series should be used for a series of festivals, not as festivals themselves. The correct way is to link individual concerts with the festival event for each year’s prom using the part-part of event-event relationship. The status quo is even more confusing when Proms 2024 and Proms 2022 exist also as events, listed under the The Proms festival series.

Are there any objections to clear and delete the series for individual years?

Seems strange to want to delete something that seems to have more detail and is clearer to read. Why not have both?

For style consistency and to be consistent with style guidelines.

Our series guidelines says a festival event series is for “a recurring festival, usually happening annually in the same location.” The Proms itself is a recurring, annual festival, so it should be a series, but not individual yearly editions of The Proms because they only happen once (e.g. The Proms 2022 happens only once in 2022, not before and will not happen afterwards).

The event guidelines say that “For multi-day festivals consisting of individual showcases, enter a top level event for the festival plus an event per showcase; a per-day middle layer is only suggested if needed for clarity.” According to the guidelines and the examples given in there, The Proms 2022 should be an event and not a series.

Having events like The Proms 2022 as both event and series is a massive duplication of effort and data. Any problems with reading the data should be resolved on the front-end with better website design and data presentation, not with the back-end (the data itself.)

Well, I guess the question here is whether each proms season is a festival and should be an event or whether it is a series of concerts. I could see both arguments - a series of concerts even sounds slightly more appropriate to me to be honest, except I guess it’d be annoying until we have series of series to hold them in - but we probably shouldn’t have it both ways either way. If most are now entered as an event, then removing the series is probably the best short-term solution.
