I’m just looking for a sanity check on what I’d like to do with two artists that I’ve come across. I’ve looked through most of the guidelines as well as many various topics on the forum on artist creation and crediting, but I’m not 100% sure in this situation:
In trying to fix the artist credits for release Extra Life by S3RL (and others I was going to add), I found that the featured singer on the track, Lexi, appears to have two entries that have both been used for various tracks by S3RL. The first is her own name, Alexandra Röthel, and the second her performance name, Lexi. Normally I’d think to just merge the two into a single artist, but this seems like a case where it would make more sense to add a relationship between the two (Alexandra Rothel performs as Lexi), and then move all the release group/release/track credits over to the Lexi entry from the Alexandra Rothel entry.
I’m torn because reading the Artist guidelines seems to indicate it as a situation where the artist entry should’ve only been created as Lexi with her real name as an alias, but since entries already exist for both her real name and her performance name, I thought of just leaving the real name entry and moving everything. Does anyone have any advice in this situation?
How many different names does she perform under?
Generally if “Alexandra Röthel” is her real name, and she performs as “Lexi”. Then this is a single artist and aliases are used.
If “Alexandra Röthel” performs under many names as different project then multiple Artists get setup using the “performs as” relationships to link them.
It is very common for someone to release work using a performance name, but credit all their Works to their real name. In this case you would use an Alias of “Alexandra Röthel” on those Works. The advantage of this is keeping everything easy to find under that single artist.
It looks to me like this case is a single artist called “Lexi” with an alias of “Alexandra Röthel” used on a few credits. So I would merge them.
Actually, now I look, is there ANYWHERE that anything is credited to the real name of “Alexandra Röthel”?
If this was me, I would merge Lexi (the newer and less used one) into “Alexandra Röthel” (as it is the older entry). Then rename “Alexandra Röthel” to Lexi. And update the Alias to note the Legal Name as “Alexandra Röthel”

As far as I’m aware, that’s the only alias she’s performed under and no, I’ve not found any tracks (at least so far) that are credited to her real name either. I’ll do a little more digging and if I can’t find anything, I’ll likely do as you suggested. I had honestly forgotten that an artist’s name can be changed, having never done that for one.
Thanks
