Artist join phrase when not specified

When not specified on cover or the release, what Join phrase should be used? Also witch artist should be first if that is not obvious?
Also, what if it is specified other places and sources like on you tube? x is popular join parse the last years i have observed.

My opinion: Maybe use the default that Musicbrainz is populating? “&” for the last artists, ", " for the rest.
