Artist as performer or writer?

I was looking at this:

Artists are the composers and the “covers” have a note “recording artist”. Shouldn’t the recording artists be moved to Artist, and the composers to the works?

In the edit history, I see edits from 2016 to use the classical-music style on these tracks. In the style guidelines for classical music, track artists should be the composers, not the performers. The performers are the recording artist (the artist on the recording entity, like this one – it’s not just a note).

This is an uncommon case where the artist appears (to my eyes) to be mixing classical and non-classical tracks on the same album (I have not heard the album to check if the resulting tracks are distinctly “rock” vs. classical). I haven’t seen any guidance on whether albums should adopt both styles on a per-track basis or stick to one. I don’t really have a personal opinion on the matter, but others here might.

This is a Synth player playing a synth. Usually just credited to the Synth artist especially as most of the album is not classical.
