Are catalog numbers on Jaxsta always legit?

I was mainly wondering if the CDBaby catalog numbers on Jaxta are legit like Sony’s catalog numbers as they seem odd but it would be good to know if that is the case for all catalog numbers on Jaxta.

Examples:
https://jaxsta.com/release/e849227b-b2f4-4cd0-96a0-8101ff661ce1/bd550558-1f5a-428c-bf9c-e6bebad91717/overview
https://jaxsta.com/release/505bb117-a8a6-4fc1-b858-0fc0f7b1f1de/f1ec4671-3c25-4c84-8413-aaee0ec400fc/overview

Yes, they are provided directly by the distributors.

Follow-up questions:
Since the Jaxsta page links to Spotify and Apple Music, I assume that means the normal digital platform distributions are then distributed by CDBaby and just not stated anywhere? (i.e. all public releases should have the Jaxsta catalog number added to them)

Is there some hidden way to know who distributed the release?

Jaxsta tells you exactly who distributed the release at the bottom of every overview page. The two you link clearly shows CDBaby. Also, DO NOT trust the linked Spotify and/or Apple Music releases on Jaxsta to point to the correct release a lot of the time. They just link to any release on those services with the same artist and release name and are not always the one with the same barcode. No, there is no hidden way to find who distributed the release on the streaming/download sites themselves that I’m aware of, just on Jaxsta.

So unless I can see the barcode on Jaxsta, I can’t tell what release it is referring to?

Actually problem (mostly) solved because CDBaby only does digital distributions and Jaxsta put the barcode in the image title/URL.

You need to inspect the page and search for UPC. I do it from the variants page, but either one works. In inspect mode (right click, then chose inspect), click on network. Then refresh (ctrl-r), in search field type “upc”. Scroll down list on left until you see the header of “variants”, you’ll see the barcodes there.

Oh, and to answer you question. Yes, you need to see the barcodes on Jaxsta to really know what release they are referring to.

Ah neat, didn’t think about inspecting the network stuff to find it. UPC in files indeed matches the UPC in image URL too, but always good to have the better method.

Sometimes though they reuse the same image on different releases. It’s actually common there and they don’t update the barcode in the image file. So I was glad I figured out this other way.
