Adding "made in" to the database for physical releases

It’s kinda strange that it is not in the MB from the day one.

I’m not talking about relationship buried among other stuff. I’m talking about clear indication visible on the release page (below release date for example) and in the release group table.

It is very important data that written on almost each physical release, it especially helps with releases up to 2010s when pressing plants were all over the world, and release that was “released in Europe” could be printed in many different countries, sometime with the same barcode and catalogue number.

Currently MB by the “Country” means the country of release, which is fine concept, you have an event of release and date when it happened. Although it’s highly flawed, often missing, next to impossible to check data, but it somewhat helps with placing release on the map.

Pros:

  • Proveable (Unlike country/area of release which is present in MB)
  • Present on the product in 99.99% cases (Unlike country/area of release which is present in MB)
  • Immensly improves diffirentiation (Unlike country/area of release which is present in MB)
  • self-sufficiency. does not overlap with any other fields

Cons:

  • Someone personally don’t like it (I can’t came up with anything else)

Also it would be great to add pressing plants connected by relationship to the country of origin.

since 2015 1 vote… that’s crazy and very sad, i’m guessing that in the next decade it will not be implemented

It is in MB. It’s called manufactured in.

I’m happy to say that this is also already in MB. It’s called manufactured by. There is also pressed by (but I don’t have enough knowledge myself for this more specific relationship and I always use the former).

There are also printed in and printed by relationships.

Wow thanks, I can’t find it by searching “manufactured in” in documentation for some reason.

Well I guess I should edit my post to “move manufacturing info to release event section”

You can find all relationships in the release relationship editor.

There’s also Relationship types - MusicBrainz which is linked under Documentation in the top menu.

I add plenty of info on a Release about CD manufacturing.

The relationships you want:

Area - Manufactured in
Label - Manufactured by, Glass Mastered by, Pressed by
Place - Manufactured at, Glass Mastered at, Pressed at

Those last two kinda overlap, but don’t. A manufacturing factory Place will be the same over many owners. Whereas the Label is more likely the name you actually read on the matrix\rear cover.

Little oddities like “Made in EU” can’t accurately be added. You need to select “Area - Europe” and then write in the “EU” as an alias. Similar with “Made in West Germany” is entered as “Germany” with the actual text as an alias
