Why is MB Picard pulling up vinyl metadata and album art by default vs the CD release?

when I drag an album (copied to my pc from a CD) into musicbrainz picard it pulls up the metadata and album art from Vinyl rather than the CD release. It even keeps pulling vinyl releases from foreign countries by default.

Is there a way to force picard to show USA CD metadata rather than from vinyl? so all the songs are tagged correctly.

See Options > Metadata > Preferred Releases

I just found that article, was gonna edit/update my post but is there anything else I should know before retagging hundreds of albums? Thanks!

My general advise:

  • Use the cluster, lookup approach, especially if you are dealing with full albums. Use lookup on single files or scan only when necessary
  • Work in batches, and don’t do too many releases at a time. Especially at the beginning try the tool with a couple of easy releases until you got how it works and you are satisfied with the result. If you are more confident it becomes easier to tag many albums at once
  • Remember that you can load any release you can find on MusicBrainz into Picard and tag your files against. You are not limited to what lookup or scan gives you if it is not what you wanted.
  • If you are picky which exact release to tag against use the “other versions” context menu to see available releases for a release group
