I’m not sure what to think of this…

I for one am disgusted and conflicted.
For those unaware, there is an active “Death to Spotify” movement of artists pulling their music off the platform and encouraging listeners to close their accounts, in protest not only of piss-poor royalty payouts but of CEO Daniel Ek’s investment in Helsing, a firm that develops AI-powered military drones. Several popular acts have pulled their music off the platform in recent months for the reasons listed above (with one going so far as to eschew streaming altogether) and the list continues to grow. Only time will tell whether this movement gains any real traction, as past protest movements against Spotify and streaming in general have fallen flat on their faces, even with A-list support.
As for me personally, the only reason I haven’t completely closed my account (I cancelled my Premium subscription in 2021 in solidarity with Neil Young and Joni Mitchell) is because Spotify is the only place to stream certain Japanese content, such as idol releases and video game soundtracks.

When Spotify bought EchoNest they shut it down and down went all the other sites and apps using their API.

time to start dragging the useful information out of WhoSampled into MBz

but i will certainly miss the feature in WS where it finds the exact timestamp for the sample :frowning:

Should we attempt to create a backup of the site data? It doesn’t seem like there’s a public API so it will have to be using scrapping/inner API calls.
