I recently noticed that releases for the label TheMusicalcurrent have had their label name changed to Sincerely Smooth Records on streaming services. Should I create new releases for them? All the IDs are still the same; only the label name and copyright notice have changed.
This is similar to what happened with Disciple Recordings when they changed their name to just Disciple.
Notice the annotations in both label pages. The old releases are left untouched under the old label name, and any new releases after the name change go under the new label page.
There’s also a “renamed into:” relationship to link them together
I’d say probably yes…
I actually did a similar thing for when General Mumble created their label for all their aliases (see this Spott release for example)
Sorry for the bump, but it seems that my question best fits here.
What if a reissue maintains references to the old label name? I have an artist that edited her old Bandcamp releases to reflect her new name while keeping the old release credits. Given that the original label had also renamed within the time of the original release and the edited release, would it make sense to keep the now-defunct label credit?
The releases in question:
[Sunrise Cutie (Single) | TOFUKU]
[Sunrise Cutie | TOFIE]
(“Rora Collective” was renamed to “RORA Team”)
