Weird stuff on this weeks global stats

on the global stats of this week there is a bunch of stuff that looks weird.

  • in the artist column there is a 2nd kendrick lamar
  • in the album colums there is an album (i guess it is linked to that same 2nd kendrick lamar artist)
  • in the tracks column there are multiple songs that have loads of plays but that are not matched to anything.

This is because of unmapped listens. Same thing will happen in your personal stats if you have a bunch of songs for an artist that are mapped, and a bunch more unmapped. No real fix other than people mapping their songs enough that MessyBrainz can auto match. I assume it is showing up now like this because of how many new listens were imported because of the new last.fm importer.

On the topic of unmapped Kendrick Lamar listens…

Right around two weeks ago, I submitted some releases to Music Brainz, and now when I play these tracks, they are unmapped even though the releases appear in MB.

This used to be the case for anywhere from 2-3 hours to 48 hours after submission to Music Brainz, and I would just wait some period of time to map them later… But this is the first time that it has been this long (10 days in some cases).

I was just thinking the other day that this could become a particular problem in the event of a major artist having a new release and the listens going unmapped for weeks on end, and that appears to have manifested itself a couple weeks ago.

i’m not sure, but it feels like everything needs to be manually mapped.
adding something to muusic brainz isn’t enough for it to be linked with a listenbrainz play.

somebody needs to link it.

(i think)

Well you can do it yourself actually! You just need to find the MessybrainzID of the song and manually link it using the api labs (I forgot the url sorry).
If 3 people does it, then it should automatically get mapped when people relisten to the song

Something else interesting concerning the mapping of tracks: a series of releases that I entered in the database for M Rodriguez within two days of each other is returning mixed values for successfully mapping or not. That is to say, the bulk of them enter, but some of them are not entering correctly… So, it would appear to not be something based on a general lag in the MB / LB mapping system that impacts all releases added together, but that it has some kind of other factors.

@RustyNova I am curious - when you manually link a track one time for yourself, will it also manually map all of the previous listens to the correct track?

While this is not 100% exactly on topic, I think this is topical and it sounds like you’d know, so I asked.

Well yes or no. It maps all the listens having the same “Messybrainz ID” to this recording. MSID are based on the title, artist credit, and release title submitted to LB by your scrobbler.

So if you listened to “The pond - Some guy” and “The pond by Some guy”, you’ll have two different MSIDs, and you’ll need to link both of them.
