Video game remake work handling

I would like to work on Persona 3 Reload soundtrack.
The thing is I don’t know how I would go about this.
First, I would like to make a P3R soundtrack work and link new tracks there.

As for arrangements of old tracks, some of them are arranged by original composers and some by Atsushi Kitajoh. Also, some tracks have new or different lyrics.
Would they be added as recordings of original works or would they need to be separate works?

If they would be added to original works, then would I need to link them to P3R soundtrack?

Maybe @CyberSkull can advise, they’ve added a lot of game arrangements.

But to get you started you could copy some of the existing fleshed-out soundtrack works:
The Chrono Trigger game soundtrack work
A Chrono Trigger song work

I would have expected more new works, when there are new arrangements, but perhaps there is a practical reason why this is/was not done.

I looked at it and Chrono Trigger doesn’t have any remake, only enhanced ports.
Most of the works have PS1, SNES, and NDS versions of tracks as normal recordings.
The difference between those recordings seem to be some compression.
It makes sense since on NDS for example it wasn’t possible to have full quality music.

Persona 3 Reload on the other hand has full arrangements of original Persona 3 tracks.

What I found at Chrono Trigger could be arrangements/covers incorrectly credited.
Recordings from Chrono Trigger: The Brink of Time are covers of original works, and the recording of Outskirts of Time is credited to original composer - Yasunori Mitsuda.
The issue is that on release’s VGMdb page, it’s said

All music composed by Yasunori Mitsuda
All arranged by Guido (are Hiroshi Hata and Kalta Ohtsuki)

The similar case is with SQUARE ENIX JAZZ -CHRONO TRIGGER-.
There, all recordings are linked as cover recordings and are credited to Yasunori Mitsuda, but on release’s VGMdb page, the arrangers are different people.

Another case is Robokabuto;Notes -ZERO Page- where there is a recording of Outskirts of Time, but it’s credited to Yasunori Mitsuda, while all tracks are arranged by Robokabuto. I guess it would need to be a cover recording with Robokabuto credited.

In the end, I didn’t get helpful info from Chrono Trigger. On the other hand, Final Fantasy VII remake could help since it’s a remake and probably has arranged tracks.

You should use the original works unless there are “significant changes to the lyrics or music” or a change in the composers credited on the track.

As you were previously told, VGM is considered popular music, and so arrangers go on MB Recordings, not MB Works.

I Will Protect You -Reload- (YT Music) is quite longer than original Because I Will Protect You (YT Music) and has more melodies.
It also starts with a melody from Memories of School (YT Music)
Would it be a separate work and be arrangement of both original tracks?

Separate work - a vast amount of new melodies would generally be considered significantly changed.

But over in karaoke land, many people seem to think that a vast amount of missing melodies are not a significant change :person_shrugging:

Will that new work then use “arrangement of” or “quotes music from” relationship for Memories of School?

I have another question. There is Episode Aegis which is epilogue for the game and it was released later. Would tracks from that get added to Persona 3 Reload work or would they need their own soundtrack work?

For some context, the original Episode Aegis was released in Persona 3 FES which was a separate game.
FES’s soundtrack is put into it’s own work.
The game has different version of Mass Destruction, which is not linked to the original.

I think it makes sense to have it in the same work, and make a note in the annotation that a track/s was released later.

(But, I am not familiar with this soundtrack FYI)

I started merging Episode Aegis works into original FES works, because the tracks are similar enough.
I’m not so sure though about Snow Queen’s theme.

Another issue is Memories of You -Living With Determination Arrangement-.
As the name suggests, it has a bit of Memories of You and Living With Determination.

Should it be an arrangement of both works?
