I’m aware of the source. I checked the Wikipedia page. I think I may have read that article when it was initially published (it’s been a while; I can’t remember).
Generally, I’d keep releases that are that well documented – infamous, like you said – as an exception to the general rule.
I would still opt for an annotation: what is the talk of the town today may be forgotten 10, 20, or 50 years hence.
