I found the Listenbrainz app on Google Play, so I installed it on my Android 10 player (FiiO M11S) but when I go to log in, I just get a white screen with “please log in to access this page” at the top, with no back button or anything else, and I have to kill the app to get back to the option to log in (and go around it all over again, and again,…) - I’m confused to say the least!
Hey, looks like a loop in the login system, you should be able to login by going to profile page. After that everything should be normal.
Hi!! Did you solve the connection problem? I have a FIIO M23 and when I want to log in to my account via the ListenBrainz application, I get the same message: “Please log in to access this page”. So I can’t connect the app to my account
Hi @JC40FL @trgz, We have fixed some bugs and updated the login flow in v2.8.0. Please update to that version to login smoothly
Hi. Thanks for the update (I really ought to enable email notifications for this thread - it was a chance visit).
I just installed the Listenbrainz app (it says it’s 2.8.1) but I still get a white page with a pale blue header with the text ‘Please log in to access this page’ if I try to use the ‘Login’ from the ‘Settings’ in the app. I also tried the ‘Profile’ button which lead me to a spinning LP animation and a ‘Login’ button, but clicking that gave me the same white page and message.
Update: I tried again today, but still no joy. I can log into my account in Firefox on my M11S, and I see that SimpleScrobbler is logged into my Music/Listenbrainz account, and appears to still successfully submitting scrobbles, so the player clearly is able to communicate with the server/site. I’m stumped.
@trgz can you re-install the app, try again?
@Jasjeet Uninstalled, and reinstalled - exactly the same problem (no real surprise given it’s reinstalled 2.8.1 again )
We have a fix coming in v2.8.4
. Please look out!
@trgz @JC40FL Latest beta build as of 7th April 2025
which addresses your issue: Release 2.8.4-beta · metabrainz/listenbrainz-android · GitHub
Firstly, thank you. However…
… I removed the old app, and I downloaded/installed the apk from github onto my FiiO M11S, but when I try to login, I see the same blue text on a pale blue banner saying “Please log in to access this page”. I checked, and it does show 2.8.4 in it the app details. FYI, I tried logging in when it first started; from the ‘Settings’; and from the Profile, just in case.
I also tried the same beta on my older FiiO X5iii, but when I try to log in on that I first get a ‘spinning’ Listenbrainz logo and then a message saying “Something went wrong, please try again later” - not an issue as this is a slow device that simply functions as my living room player.
I thought I’d try installing it on my Moto G5S, and I got the same blue banner saying “Please log in to access this page”, but this time I saw a ‘Sign In’ page below it, and I have successfully signed-in on that device. At least I know my network isn’t an issue, and I know what I should be seeing.
The M11S is Android 10, the X5iii is Android 5.1.1, and the Moto G5S is Android 8.1.0.
It’s not really a big problem for me, so please don’t waste any time on my behalf.
@trgz So you mean you never scrolled down and clicked on the Sign in with MusicBrainz
button on that next screen on previous trials?
(On my M11S) I’ve never seen the option to scroll, just a banner and the rest of the screen/page was totally blank. I bought the M11S back in October/November, and so I’ve never installed anything earlier - is it worth trying an older version of the app? (if so, where could I get one to test?)
Older app versions are available on our github repo but I think that wont solve the issue. Its a browser problem more than app problem. See, the page you’re mentioning is a webpage that is rendered just like chrome renders pages. App has nothing to do with it, things like these happen with old browsers all the time so its okay. All in all, problem solved. Happy listening!
Odd, given that Chrome & Firefox both work fine on the M11S, and that it appears to be ‘inside’ the App (the logo is still at the top of the screen). I will try a few of the older versions though.
Its Android WebView to be exact, chrome is used as an example here to explain things better.
Ah, thanks.
I did try all the versions on Github, but only ver 1.2 works, though it shows 2022 results!
I notice that the earlier versions had an option in the settings to manually enter the user’s token - I guess, possibly incorrectly, that this is what the login page is for.
Thinking of platforms like .NET, C++ redistributables, ActiveX, etc., that often need to be installed to enable programs to run in Windows, might there be something that my M11S is missing, or is WebView usually embedded in the package?
Its a separate package of sorts.
Hmm, when I saw that, I had high hopes that this was the solution; sadly I’ve tried installing/uninstalling both the WebView app and the latest ListenBrainz beta, and doing this in different orders, just in case, but it still just gives the same ‘blue banner’ result. I tried it with the previous 2.8.3 release, but that was the same too.
EDIT: I was digging around the apps installed, and I noticed that ‘Android System WebView’ was actually already installed and ‘running’ and that this attempt to add it from Google Play actually showed up as ‘Android System WebView(2)’, so it was probably a futile attempt.
Anyway, I would suggest that, if no-one else is having this issue, then you might want to concentrate your efforts elsewhere. If anything changes at my end (ie a future release fixes it) then I’ll update you. Thanks
