That is flippin’ incredible
An oldie (January 2022) but new to me:
On a lark, I grepped the names of the featured instruments against a dump of MB’s instrument
and instrument_alias
tables. Only four seemed to be missing after accounting for spelling differences or other “close enough” instruments:
- Tambin, a.k.a. sereendu, fulannu, or Fula flute (as heard in Black Panther, see also this cool video of it being performed)
- Thianhou, a type of raft zither made from straw, consisting of multiple tube zithers (already included)
- Swarsangam, an amalgamation of the tanpura and swarmandal (both already included)
- Lahuta a.k.a. gusle, not to be confused with the multi-stringed gusli
Re: Fake artists
Those were recently subject of a documentary about streaming platforms in German public broadcast TV:

If you are adding Bandcamp releases in advance but they lack lengths and you can’t find it elsewhere use the embedded player feature to see the “hidden” lengths:
Maybe the Bandcamp import script could make use of this “feature” too?

A while ago I’ve asked whether a mobile phone can be a release among other things. I guess there’s an answer now:

Why do studios allow piracy on Youtube or https://www.cda.pl/?
I’m asking seriously.
YouTube lets copyright holders get a portion of the revenue from the ads shown alongside their content even if they didn’t upload it – see e.g. “How Content ID works”. I’m unfamiliar with the other site.
Windows Media Player Legacy on Win11 it still works, fetches tags and covers.
Even to cleaned mp3’s.

Essentials are not albums, they are playlists. Just tracks put together by Apple which can change.
They pop up in the middle of this meandering thread: Can a playlist be considered a release?
Ivan, that’s possible. I wrote this in relation to my previous post where there is a screenshot of Windows Media Player.
I have this Kraftwerk on mp3 and downloaded the tags and covers with WMP.
Do you know the site with old versions of the application?
E.g. Winamp 0.20 from 1997.
It works, but only halfway. There’s no sound. Gotta have some fun.
Be careful what you trust MS Media Player with - you’ll likely be getting some old version of MP3 tagging standard, and those annoying hidden image files. If you like the search results it gives you, maybe pass it through MP3TAG to update the tags to a newer level.
And yes - I am an old Winamp user from the 1990s.
Winamp visualisations are why you need to own a projector…
