Single vs. EP

@jesus2099 the order of that list of yours makes lots of sense, but remixes needs to be after singles. Very often I find a bands own remixes are in this category. Personally I think a bands own remixes should be with the relevant single\EP but too often the word “remix” in the title bumps it separate.

To me a “remix” should be more about a different artist working with the original tracks and making something new.

Trouble is, there is no “correct” order of that list as everyone has their own priorities. For example, I can see why Compilation is in front of Live as it is still studio related. Usually live is full of hundreds of bootlegs.

But compilations are redundant, while lives are new original recordings, like albums, EP and singles.

But for some time now, we are no longer showing the release groups containing only bootlegs, per default.

It is that old “personal difference” again. Many people see their artists via just a few compilations. And compilations can often include extra tracks that never appeared on earlier albums. Or a “B Sides Compilation”, etc.

Isn’t that what scripts are about? I have something in place that always shows bootlegs as these are important to me for the artists I am interested in.

I also notice you have missed categories like Broadcast. There is no perfect order.

There is no perfect order but I am sure that the current order can be improved.

EP before Singles

At least it seems we all agree to have EP between Albums and Singles, no?
While we change this, maybe we could agree on some other improvements on the order?

Compilations last, Lives before

Even if for some artists I am perfectly happy with having only a compilation, what we want to see in an artist discography, we are looking for the artist history, is a more artist-centrist approach, with original (new) material first.

If they are important for you, it is still good to see them before compilations, no?
Lives are new material, compilations are not.
And by default, only official lives are shown.

I only suggested changes (swap live and compilation, and this topic adds swap single and EP), not a complete new order, as it is even difficult to guess the current order, for me.

Broadcast are new materials too, they could come with Soundtrack, after the classical Album, EP, Single, Live group?

I think I will add a wiki post here, with current and wished artist release group order, so that everyone can edit it and agree on the target.

Compilations often have extra tracks added. I see the order as putting Studio Recordings before Soundtrack and Live.

Following your logic of wanting “new stuff” higher up the list, that would put Soundtrack ahead of live.

This is what I mean about we are all different. Personally I see there are more important things to sort out than a few cosmetics. Would be nice if EP got a bump up the order, but otherwise I think things are fine as they are. (And we are getting very off topic)

That’s a minority of compilations, really.

Yes, no problem, as long as Compilations are last.

Maybe those 2 little changes would be able to receive agreements, maybe?

  • Albums, EP, Singles, EP
  • Compilations last before unknown

Where would you put Singles+Remix, Single+Soundtrack, EP+Remix, EP+Soundtrack & EP+Compilation releases?

Yes!

Great to see this come up again. When I mentioned it a few years ago there was a bit of a groan from some of the devs so I thought it was something that was already on their mind? But years later EP still sits at the bottom so maybe it wasn’t!

Currently Single+Remix etc goes above EP. So may as well swap EP + [whatever] under EP as well.
