Should an album of re-recorded songs be marked as a compilation?

Hey, I am currently looking at Moment of Glory, which is marked as a “compilation”. Is that correct?

From the wikipedia page (which, by the way, also classifies the album as a compilation):

The album features re-arranged songs from the Scorpions repertoire, as well as classical interludes, a cover song and the new single “Moment of Glory”.

From the style guide I have the impression that this album is basically a “tribute release” (from the band to itself) which should not necessarily be marked as a “compilation”.

So, should an album of re-recorded songs be marked as a compilation?

A “Compilation” on MB means a collection of old recordings, although note that the recordings on a compilation release may not have been released previously (this is somewhat common with “game song collection” or similar type albums).

If the album is all-new recordings made specifically for that album then it definitely should not be set as “Compilation”.

You are correct. Not a compilation. It is all new stuff.

The best reference for me is what does the Band think?

Their own discography has it as an Album and not a Compilation.
