Removing all of my Picard submitted data from MusicBrainz?

As a dumb kid, I used MusicBrainz incorrectly. I think I put a lot of faith in AcoustID and in the auto tagging. My MP3 collection has a lot of files that are incorrectly tagged - badly. Video game music getting tagged as a specific rap song. Rap songs getting tagged as another country artist with a single word’s similarity in the track name. It was probably a combo of using the auto tagging en masse, and then submitting AcoustID fingerprints.

I think most of my non-manual edits have done more harm than good over the years.

I know I can’t get my library fixed, but is there a way to have my contributions removed from MusicBrains / AcoustID? Especially acoustid - I think that’s the biggest problem. I think ideally an operation to remove all acoustid fingerprint submissions by my user would probably be a very good thing.

I don’t believe you can remove it, unless you somehow remember what your API key would have been back then and see if lukz can remove those entries.

Not chastising you, you’ve already admitted that your actions were silly, but this is the major reason I believe that submitting of AcoustID’s should be locked out for anyone who isnt maybe an AE or similar level on MusicBrainz

Ouch. :grimacing: Thank you for admission of your sins. We may forgive you. Hopefully others will learn from this.

As @sound.and.vision notes, there is no way to undo your deeds. Apart from going to each recording one by one and fixing it…

You are certainly not the only one to have done that. The “Submit AcoustID” is way too visible on Picard. It should at least be hidden from the default GUI.

There is actually a decent chance I do have the same API key available due to the way that I backup and restore my home folder over time. For instance I just fired up my main computer that I haven’t used in over 6 years and it’s like a time capsule. Long story…

I had used Moodlogic for a while and was used to playing fast and loose… The submit acoustid should probably at least be behind something that says “Are you absolutely sure this song is correctly tagged, because you yourself tagged it, and not someone else or a tool?” I would have taken it more seriously even back then.

But, yes… I’m sorry. I did have (for the time) a pretty large collection, and it hurts to think how my “I can help!” may have made a noticeable degradation for other users…
