I’ve recently imported 2 releases that have some pretty particular titles.
Just for some context, in 2020 the Avex Trax label released full length/extended versions of their Super Eurobeat, Vol. 64 to 99 originally released only in 4 minute versions from 1996 to 1999.
These releases are split based on the songs label and follow this format:
Super Eurobeat, Vol. XX Extended Version (Time | Rodgers & Contini | Delta) Edition
How should we go about importing these?
The releases I have imported are the Time edition of Vol. 79 and 85. I’ve formatted the titles in the way that seemed most sensible and I put them in separate release groups so that it’s easy to rename and merge them where necessary
The title format I’ve used is this:
Super Eurobeat, Vol. XX: extended version, Time Edition
I believe the general practice is to just add two subtitles, like so:
…so following that example, that would be Super Eurobeat, Vol. XX: extended version: Time Edition. that said, I could see it being treated as ETI, which would instead go on parentheses, like Super Eurobeat, Vol. XX (extended version) (Time edition). I’m not sure which I’d go with here myself tho…
It seems that for releases prior to Vol. 64, whoever imported them chose to classify the “Extended Version” as a subtitle
So I’m thinking of continuing that trend while adding the edition as ETI as you suggested:
Super Eurobeat, Vol. XX: Extended Version (Time edition)
Does this format make sense? Also, should these extended versions be merged in the same release group as the original (non-extended) version?
Since a lot of Super Eurobeat releases are already somewhat present in the MusicBrainz database and many of them capitalize the title as “Super Eurobeat” instead of all caps, I decided to follow this lead especially since it can be recapitalized very easily with a case-sensitive find & replace
