While reviewing my stats page for this week, I noticed that I supposedly listened to the prologue to Hook twice: (Prologue and John Williams are grey since I clicked the link)
However, I never listened to the prologue of Hook this week (I don’t have the CD for it). Instead, I listened to the prologue of Harry Potter:
(This is the one time from Monday)
Additionally I listened to the Oliver and Company soundtrack release of Once Upon a Time in NYC, which upon reviewing that recording, the recording that shows on the stat page is not the same one either that I listened to. To me, It appears that the stats page is just matching recording title and artist. As seen with the Prologue, this causes problems when an artist (often in cases like soundtracks) has released multiple recordings with the same title, but aren’t related at all. And in the case of Once Upon a Time in NYC, the wrong recording gets selected (although it appears to be the same, but a version from a Compilation release). Is it possible to fix this? (I would think just using the recording ID and computing the track name, artist and album would be better)
Thanks, 14Super60pa
Currently it’s not possible to tell listenbrainz from which album you listened to it. It’s planned, but not there yet.
Most times it matches the first inserted release in MB
I’m using Jellyfin LB plugin and from what I can tell (I haven’t dug into the source of the plug-in yet) it has always successfully matched what I listen to on Jellyfin to the listens page on LB.
I don’t think that’s the problem. I like to tag my recording on picard with the release with the first release/single release for those sweet cover arts.
But if I listen to the single release, then the rest of the album, if the first recording count only for the single release, then I haven’t listened to the album fully according to the stats.
it’s also neat to see how much your are listening to a compilation release that you don’t even own, but your recording were rereleased in it
Edit: I mean release groups. Releases can be ignored
I think ultimately we don’t want to choose but want to have it both ways right? We want to be able to check how often we’ve listened to the tracks on the compilation itself and/or elsewhere. Just like we might want to be able to see how often we’ve listened to a particular song (all recordings included) and how often we’ve listened to each different recording of that same song. Just like I’d very much appreciate an overview of most listened works. Would be interesting to see which work is most popular across all of LB.
I like to think of LB as being quite rudimentary right now. That’s not meant to downplay the incredible shape it’s in already, but meant to highlight the beautiful possibilities out there. The beauty of LB is that it’s ever evolving and with enough support could in the future be tailored to everyone need. As long as the data that we gather is as complete as possible, then it can be displayed in all sorts of ways in the future.
