Prospective GSoC 2026 contributor - introduction and how to get started

Hello everyone,

My name is Priyanka and I’m a Computer Engineering student with strong interest in data systems, backend development, and applied machine learning.

I’ve recently started contributing to open source and had my first PR merged in Great Expectations, and I would really like to start contributing to MetaBrainz projects with the goal of applying for GSoC 2026.

I’m particularly interested in working on data-heavy or backend-focused parts of the stack (APIs, data pipelines, recommendation systems, statistics, etc.), and I’m comfortable working with Python, SQL, and web APIs.

I’d really appreciate guidance on:
• which MetaBrainz projects are currently most suitable for new contributors
• which repositories/issues would be good places to start
• what kind of contributions mentors usually expect before proposal time

Looking forward to learning and contributing here.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Metabrainz team !

I am Tushar a recent graduate in software engineering and as a classical music lover guy, i would love to contribute and go for it with my current skills in python, java bit of rust and foundation of AL/ML as well.

Although i am a beginner in open source domain so i would like to have some guidance from your end to get started and start researching and developing my mindset about contribution.

Because mindset is everything which i believe.

Thanks for your kind time

Regards

Tushar
