Another Picard 2 release. Focus was on bug fixing, but some features made it into this release nonetheless.
The release unfortunately introduced a regression related to the new “Merge Original Values” feature, which would cause Picard crashing when opening the metadata context menu while more than one changed tag was selected.
This has now been fixed in the 2.13.2 release:
Thanks for the new release!
There is a (small) issue I’m seeing with the Windows release: the bundled dependencies seem quite old.
I’m mainly concerned with OpenSSL here, 1.1.1b is quite a bit out of date.
Perhaps this is an issue with my install method through chocolatey, not sure if it applies to all Windows releases.
It’s the version the PyQt5-Qt5 package is built against for Windows. There are no plans to update this for Picard 2.
And here comes another bugfix release. This is primarily for Windows users who experienced SSL network errors, which made Picard unable to load anything from the internet. See the blog post for details:
The tickets site seems to be down. Picard is crashing frequently for me. It happens while “[Loading Album Information]”, even for single tracks. Here is the log I see after re-starting:
Does it crash for any specific data you load? If yes, which release causes crashing? Or is it rather random?
You can try disabling plugins tobsee if yhe crashing is caused by a plugin.
It seemed pretty random: this morning, a Mekons cover and Sh-boom Sh-boom by the Crewcuts. I reverted to 2.13.2 and disabled all plugins and I get the same behavior—it hangs on loading album information for a long time and then crashes. I had thought it was something caused by a recent update, but I guess not. Not everything crashes either, but I happened to try these two problem files at once.
And, just now: The Mekons - Crime and Punishment EP does the same thing.
You say it crashes when loading Release “Crime and Punishment” by The Mekons - MusicBrainz ? Everytime or just sometimes?
I see nothing weird with this release.
Can you run Picard from terminal and load this release (you can just copy the url in the Search Release box on top right)?
"C:\Program Files\MusicBrainz Picard\picard.exe" --debug --no-plugins

I just noticed your log says Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 isn’t that a bit old in Windows World?
After a lot more tinkering, I think I found the problem. It was searching every adjacent directory and all of their children for cover art. When I isolate the files in a directory with no siblings, it’s fine. Yes, Windows 7 belongs in a museum. Thanks.
A museum for how good it is. I still use it as my daily driver and have no issues with it (I also have XP for more legacy software). I still have a modern browser that gets monthly updates, a modern email client and I don’t have to worry about all that spyware/bloatware that is in Windows 11. I plan to use 7 for a few more decades, or until M$ sees the light and return to the path of truth.
Curious. Which browser is still getting updates on Win7? I thought most of the major ones had abandoned updates?
Firefox ESR 115.x is still getting updates till at least August 2025 (MSN). Also if I wanted a chromium browser there is Superium (Supermium Web Browser), which bring modern chromium and some other features to Windows XP SP1 + (the developer, who is on a legacy Windows server I’m part of, is working on getting Windows 2000 to work as well).
