@aerozol

[mailed in] My turn to get sick! Pretty bad but only lasted a few days and I’m back at it now.
I did some socials and I think I did some other admin-ey stuff that I didn’t write down and can’t remember ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Haris

Hi all, monkey helped a lot on the LB-1973 PR so it looks much better now. My pr for LB-1878 also got merged. I got sick around Wednesday and havent felt better since. Its a case of HFMD, a highly contagious viral disease with symptoms similar to chickenpox.

• LB-1973: Fix the scroll-bar on “Fresh releases” page
• LB-1878: Inconsistent listen history export JSON format

Still quarantined. Scrolling in bed for most of my time. Almost better now. Food doesn’t hurt to swallow anymore so great breakthrough.

@outsidecontext

last week I was on a business trip for half the week and generally occupied fully by my day job. Did some Picard PR review on the weekend, zas has been very busy : )
Due to the many changes we decided to do another release candidate for Picard 3, planned for tomorrow.

@ApeKattQuest_MonkeyPython

Hallway electric stuff has been fix0red
currently trying to finish plastering stuff before the summit starts (painting will have to wait until after, I think )
that’s it for me, I will be busy this week and next, alas.
one thing of note: this [forum post: New relationships: "instrument is made by" and similar] came up.. might be an interesting thing to discuss.

@zas

Most work landed in MusicBrainz Picard (18 PRs), after RC3 release, based on user feedback + extensive tests:

• Internationalization/translation: runtime translation of constants, tag descriptions, artwork headers, custom columns, and constants gettext domain (#3453, #3457, #3458, #3459)
• Config/options cleanup: run config upgrades in CLI, purge obsolete options on upgrade, remove obsolete rating/release-type options (#3449, #3450, #3451)
• Performance: speed up tag tooltips via Markdown instance reuse + caching (#3462); thread-safe tooltip rendering (#3464, open)
• Bug fixes/UX: font-change-on-paste in script editor (#3444), track duration tolerance for ~length diff (#3445), read-only value clarity (#3446), bundle sqlite3 in builds (#3447)
• Tooling: opt-in memory profiling tool (#3463, open)
• French translations: completed 100%, used to verify (see above)

As said by outsidecontext RC4 will be released tomorrow

Infrastructure/ops work across other repos:

• openresty-gateways: WS stats/logging restore, split rate limiting into global + search (#51, #52); capacity-aware upstream weight advisor (#53, open)
• docker-server-configs: gwproxy rate limit keys (#393)
• metabrainz-ansible: fix shadowed docker_servers.yml (#122)
• bot-detector-config: remove Rapid-API-Abuse chain (#9)
• I wrote a script to calculate ideal weights on gateways based on various factors

I investigated the high number of 503s on MB web service issue and fixed it: we had a lower rate limit since the SOLR cluster crash that couldn’t be raised because MB ws backends were saturating, I optimized the number of workers (with bitmap’s help), and the load share (weights), once done I could finally raise the limit again.

@JadedBlueEyes

[Jade] Not much to report this week, just a little work on mb-mail-service (and cutting a new release there)
Having my own bot-fighting adventures, they’re deploying headless chrome at 160RPS to scrape every permutation of the search parameters on my issues page now
And i’ve got a blood test booked to try and diagnose whatever health stuff is going on. but that’s about it

@Silona

[Silona Bonewald] Board meeting
30,60,90 review
Budget / infra issues
Unicorn subscriber meeting
New deck for pitching
Working on new tiers and pricing.
the board meeting meant - finish up everything to show off so busy week
they are going to use us but not ready to start paying until Jan closer to product launch
but yea - it looks like from the little research i have done that our unicorn pricing is pretty much what others charge to resell our data.. so yea…

@yvanzo

Last week I merged the reviewed patches to block deep searches (MBS-14455).
Also completed and submitted a set of patches to tag requests sent from MB Server to Solr (MBS-14470).

• MBS-14455: Limit the depth of search to 500 results
• MBS-14470: Tag Solr requests with server-sided metadata

Had a video call with zas on LLM assistance in development.
Had a video meeting with bitmap , lucifer, reosarevok and zas on MB Solr development.
Plus reviewing bitmap’s PRs.

@bitmap

last week I was mostly working on finishing bug fixes / refactoring on the React recording edit form branch that reosarevok started - Commits · mwiencek/musicbrainz-server · GitHub
that’s finally done now and just needs review
otherwise I spent time on code review, releasing a new beta update, and deploying some WS worker count changes to help zas with reducing 503s (edited)
oh and investigating some slow SQL queries in MBS and preparing patches for those

@mr_monkey

[monkey] Last week I worked on finishing up and reviewing some useful features (improving the Fresh releases page, the art creator layout and caption options, the brainzplayer progress bar interactions, etc.) see Release v-2026-09-15.0 · metabrainz/listenbrainz-server · GitHub and Release v-2026-09-21.0 · metabrainz/listenbrainz-server · GitHub
Generally chipping at our big backlog of PRs
Redesigned the new Oauth connection screen after requests by Fankee
Had a meeting with Silona to talk about how to plan the future of ListenBrainz, started looking into adding more statistics and planning for features to come
Reviewed and deployed some performance improvements for some very slow queries between BookBrainz and CritiqueBrainz, thanks to bitmap. Fixed some security issue for CB while I was there deploying a new version
Contacted Qobuz to get access to their API, after another user requested it. Waiting for a response ont that front after a back-and-forth.
Read up on some database design and performance related docs in the context of LB infrastructure improvements and BB performance issues
And had an office cleaning party to start preparing for the summit
And some usual ticket triaging, social media, poking at new third-party software using LB

@lucifer

Last week, I tested the migrations and worked on migrating listens from Gaga to gizzard with the new partitioning scheme .
It’s looking good and will switch the primary listens to gizzard this week ideally, which will bring a nice boost to LB spee
Also looked at bring clickhouse stats
In production
And some bugs that were reported on support

@julian45

not much of note this week, mostly infra discussions with the team
did a couple of patches to staff SSO as they were made available

@jasjeet

[jasje] Last week I left my job and now I’m unemployed
Will be jobful in some days again
Had to submit the laptop i did most stuff on
So couldn’t do anything
Will start again by the end of this week

@garvthakre

no updates from my side as my on-campus placements are going on, so i’ve been quite busy with that .
and btw bear grylls accepted my linkedin request : )

@Gopal7387

[Gopal] I have two merges to acknowledge this week …

1. Caption options for the cover art grid number LB-1651. You can now show rank and listen count on your grids and pick your own colors. It took six months, so thanks a lot to monkey and aerozol l for the patience!!!
2. Smooth progress bar with drag to seek number LB-1965. The BrainzPlayer bar now glides instead of ticking along and you can grab the handle and drag to any spot in a song.
   It feels so much nicer Thanks to ansh and monkey , for the reviews.

• LB-1651: Add release/listen text options to art creator/stats art generator
• LB-1965: Smooth progress bar animation and drag-to-seek support

So, give them a try and let me know what you really think

@waqib2992

Last week worked on improving some parts of my gsoc project
Also spent some time learning more about linux and kernel development

@Lioncat6

I haven’t been too busy as of late but I have been working on getting SAMBL ready for its next release. Client side and server side API code has been refactored, the find page is now more performant, and a bunch of other small improvements.

@reosarevok

Last week I did a bunch of mail / office stuff, went through the accounting with Silona Bonewald, and reviewed some code, which we are in the process of releasing after a while without MusicBrainz releases
Oh, also, tried not to scream about being repeatedly offered by a company making residential proxies for scraping websites “to add their SDK to Picard and pay us for it”
(I genuinely doubt they’d offer enough money to cover anywhere near the amount that same kind of practice costs us on servers, not that we’d agree either way, but just, the shamelessness of it)
I’ll be as polite as I can and just say
BOO
