[mailed in] [jasje] Last week, I was super bogged down by my job, and likely this week as well.
Couldn’t do much other than reply to some conversations.
Luckily, mayhem sent over some sweets that arrived today, and I have been munching those (thanks again ^_^)

[mailed in] This week I mainly worked on a new tool to block some bots based on their behavior, code is done, I did a lot of local tests, so it is almost ready to run in production (at first, it will not really act, only log, until we are sure it works as expected).
That’s work in progress, curious who have access can have a look at https://github.com/metabrainz/bot-detector
It isn’t meant to solve everything but it will be a part of the solution.
Plus usual stuff, supervision, minor admin tasks, upgrades, MB edits.

• had a really good talk with monkey and found out we do have attribute on relationships! (sorta) monkey will probably elaborate on this
• celebrated halloween and had good food
• sorted out some travel stuff

• caught 3 Gigantamax Garbodor!
• started working on INST-627
• drew a little sprellemann

This week I’ll:

• add 2 releases
• work on a bookseries
• continue work on the instruments

[monkey] Last week I was working on improvements to the Art Creator feature in ListenBrainz. Fixing album grids, adding a new template, and promoting the feature from “beta” status
I had a video chat with aerozol and looked into a new design for YIM, one that minimizes changes from year to year to reduce the work required from the team each year
I continued investigating and fixing issues with brainzplayer, but not quite out of the woods yet…
And looked into relationship attributes in BookBrainz, soecifically in the context of an ongoing discussion about translated works
And a few small tickets and tasks here and there

[Jade] Last week I merged fettuccinae’s new email templates and published them as a new release
Also sent a chase email to my supervisor, but no response
However I do have a little prototype that can index the MBIDs and the ReplayGain, etc of my 30gb library remarkably quickly
And the database backend is pluggable, which is fun

Mōrena! Morning! I’m back in meetings ‘in person’, when I can drag my ass up at a breezy 7am
Spent a decent chunk of time on the new YiM mockup, which I’m feeling very pleased with. I think it’s a step forward the team in terms of making things easier, as well as an improvement for users
now the LB team “just” has to build it
Otherwise the usual socials etc

Last week I looked closer into the SoundCloud provider for Harmony.
Reviewing turned quickly refactoring, also showing a few places where I can improve the general (testing) architecture.
Plus a bit of MB editing, that’s it.

mostly maintenance work this past week:

• brought our matrix server & supporting infra (such as draupnir, the modbot) up to date by incorporating recent changes from the upstream for the ansible tooling we use
• also brought authentik (SSO tool) from 2025.8.something to freshly released 2025.10.1
• did updates on both supporting servers’ OSes

on the non-maintenance front, i also began to spin up a maubot instance for chatbrainz! it is essentially a very very extensible bot tool for matrix and i envision our instance to be the matrix-native version of brainzbot
Jade has already done some great work to implement some of the core things we get from brainzbot as maubot “plugins” (thank you!!!)
i plan to work with lucifer et al in the near future to confirm what features still need to be covered and then phase in maubot

last week I mostly continued working on the artist credit editor validation for the React recording edit form, which is nearly done, and a patch to improve the subscription emails script performance
also did the usual MB code review, banning spammers, and support on the forums / jira, etc.

[ansh] Last week, I was mostly travelling, so couldn’t do much
I did get some time and reviewed couple of PRs for LB.

[mayhem] 1last week was dealing with some accounting headaches and lots of emails and a couple of meetings.
and then I started working on the CAA cache, a system that anyone should be able to deploy with ease to make a caching CAA mirror server.
hopefully we can get projects and others to setup public caches to take the load off the IA.
still not sleeping great, so progress was limited, but hoping that will clear up by the end of the week.

Last week I converted the rest of the discid/cdtoc code to React
And I did a few other small bits of code and code review
Then today I updated the prod MB servers, and I’m off to France to mostly eat and chill until Sunday

This week I tried figuring out the way to show the capta during create account as the feature stopped working after the update to the website.
