aigh, so the conflict resolution policy is up:
New MetaBrainz conflict resolution policy
note that this is a tighter round of feeback that we’re seeking since we had outside help in crafting that.
hopefully we’ll only address typos, wording or really big issues.
last week I also worked on sending invoices automatically and getting out accounting cleaned up and fully up to date.
we have loads of money in the bank which is nice.
more on that later.
on friday I am headed to california on a mix of business and pleasure.
I’m attending the distributed web conference at the internet archive. and after that I’m bouncing around in california and washington.
I’ll see about visiting amazon while I am up there and possibly also the google cloud team.
so, my availability will be more shaky for the next 2.5 weeks. and then the last 2 weeks of august I’ll be in scotland on holidays.a
I’ll still be around a bit, but I don’t suspect I’ll be doing too much actual work during that time.
I’ve been super busy getting things cleaned up and that has been feeling quite good. I wish I had more time to do PRs, but hey…

still can’t believe its been almost 2 years since he started working on Picard
with Picard 2.0 and Solr out in prod
I have something to share
I am moving to London for a job next month and won’t be an official contractor anymore. This move is due to some personal goals and family responsibilities.
That said, I wanna add I can never let go of metabrainz or Picard. I will be around as a volunteer, reviewing, fixing stuff.
Plus, I have come to associate Picard as a hobby, stress relief and (as @chhavi likes to joke) my other girlfriend, so yeah there’s that
MeB has given me the best of people I now call friends and helped me achieve phenomenal personal and professional growth.
so thank you everyone!

first, thanks @samj1912 for what you’ve done. you’re a force of nature to be reckoned with.
second, we’re going to see you at the summit, no?
third, we’re all hoping that this isn’t goodbye, but ciao for now.
(@samj1912: yup on both counts)
meaning that inside of all that “personal goals and professional growth” is more a backstory. I only have a fragment of what is going on, and I full see what @samj1912 is doing. I’m doing my best to see if in a year or two we can circle back around.
for now, that’s it.

well, apart walking under the Malta sun, just helped a bit on Picard release, and handled few emergencies, we had a server issue yesterday with burnside, cause undetermined (likely cpu crash)

Not Last week, I worked on MusicBrainz server virtual machine mostly, and the usual spam stuff, PR reviews, bug triage, community support.

I continuted working on converting the entity merge forms to React
developed a fix for MBS-9400 but might make some changes if we can limit some of the tags returned
tested and fixed some more bugs in the React i18n code I’ve been workin on on-and-off
(@Rob: what percentage of our site is on react vs tt? rough guess is fine.)
some pages are partially react and partially tt, but maybe 20%? also some big prs are still unmerged
(@Rob: zas: any drop in CPU usage yet?)
(@Zas: since this process is incremental i’ll have to look carefully, but nothing obvious)
(@Zas: i guess the gain exists though, just hard to see in graphs over a long period with varying traffic)
also fixed some bugs in my sinuses so I’m not sick anymore.

Dealt with some conflicts. One editor was very adamant that current MB practices were wrong and wanted to cast a vote of no confidence in these practices to the central committee, all the while refusing to move discussion to forums or similar venue. :sigh:
Poked at blog post by @samj1912, which I guess still hasn’t been published.
And otherwise around and about.
(Sweating a lot up here in Sweden. It’s wonderful. )

As evident, I have been struggling to keep up past few weeks due to all the moving. This weekend managed to work on our design system documentation a bit more and fix our summit t-shirt.
Also helped invat to understand our entities and design mockups, so she can help me move pixels around.

Last week I created PR for LB-382. This concludes the Part 2 of GSoC project. And I did the basic setup for rabbitMQ server on MsB. This will be helpful to create clusters of incoming recordings

is back at uni for the last time
Anyways, last year doesn’t mean that they leave me alone, so been dealing with bureaucracy and stuff
Anyways, I worked on AB migration when I got the time
And coordinated with the size able Indian contingent for the summit
So that we dont come via seperate flights from the same cities like last year
5 people flying in this time, I guess.

I also talked with @ferbncode to poke him to not get busy
Oh yeah, I bought a camera for the trips.
Just need to learn how to work it now.

This week I went to some places and couldn’t give much time for the project, although opened a PR to write tests for musicbrainz importer.
And now after I’ll discuss about decision testing work for the use of 2 methods with @iliekcomputers, i will start writing scripts for the same.
Looking forward to more interesting work for last few GSoC weeks.

I have still been working on support, cleaning classical composers up and staying away from the awful terrible no good heat
Can’t wait for bad weather
Other than that, some BBC editor hand holding
Next week plan is even more clean up and looking at the new tickets that have been added recently

My last two weeks have been amazingly unproductive in regards to GSoC due to me volunteering in a summer camp and writing exams, at least the last one is in two days
Other than that, I’m now officially the first MeB contractor to be paid solely in chocolate!
Which means I can work with user data without compromising our privacy policy, which is pretty essential for SpamBrainz

I wrapped up recentImports and import specific pages this week
We’re using an older version of react bootstrap, and I ended up writing pagination logic as it has been removed in the newer version
But using newer version breaks a few of older components, so I working on getting it fixed

I think I pretty much already covered what needed to be said.

So I was working on uploading our t-shirts. RedBubble allows printing only on one side (either back or front). So we decided to use SpreadShirt. We are also assured about it’s cloth quality and all..so it might be better even if it’s slightly more expensive.
That said, the previous design had a lot of colours, and hence it’s not coming out in best of colors/resolution in print. I did a little “redesign”.

Some minor corrections/alterations were suggested, but overall people were very happy with the design.
