I spent most of the last week lazing around beaches.
anyways, got back yesterday.
there wasn’t any internet so I didn’t get anything done.
but after getting back, I’ve worked with @little_rsh a bit on some of her stuff.
other than that, I’ve been trying to find why listen counts aren’t updating on the LB site.

last week was more of the usual stuff. after the banking hell was tucked away I spent a bunch of time catching up on other things that had piled up.
lots of work reviewing MsB work and starting to think about how to pick up the spark work again, but I never quite got there.
oh and I submitted more paperwork to a new bank in an effort to open an account with them.
tranferwise is nice, but still costs more than a regular bank for our needs.
and I also fixed an isolated LB problem where the compat API had been rejecting @rdswift’s submission for a couple of weeks.
finally, I opened a PR for the gender neutral speech, which I’ll merge this week.
but everyone should be getting paid tomorrow – let me know if you have any fees or amounts not as you expected.

I worked on converting the rest of the search result pages for other entities to React (areas were already completed & merged)
other than that, the usual code review and fixes to other PRs. still working on handling HTML in our translated strings for React
finally merged more of @chhavi’s work so she can continue designing more components

ok so I made some tickets about dates:

This is also (a tiny bit) relevant to our redesign thing so I hope chhavi will take a look at this too
also hoping @LordSputnik and @shivamt will consider the “BB BC” issue as well (BC dates are even more relevant to BookBrainz than to MusicBrainz :O)

I started working on a post/question/ticket(dunno?) about the locale list we have and my findings and issues working with it on a regular basis, and finally

Last week was looking into some reported editors and flagged forum stuffs…
Reset a Jira user’s password on their request…
Did a change on the blog to make it comply to GDPR (according to Wordpress).
Continuing to add community requested abbreviations to the forum abbreviation thing.
And I think that mostly covers things except for the generally being-around-and-about-ness.

Last week I worked on writing code to import the data from musicbrainz db for the MB tables we need in AB and write them in a separate schema in AcousticBrainz db.
I am able to get the data for all the recordings present in AB low-level table. The work of importing the MB data and writing it in AB db is almost done.
And I’ll open a PR in an hour or so.
This coming week I’ll move to the next part of the mb data import which is to update it regularly whenever any new recording is added to AB.

So, lots of solr cloud work this week
Finally finished up with solr on the search part
Now the only thing left is scaling it for prod
Hit a bottleneck with solr on release and recording indices
Figuring out some way to deal with that

I fixed localization issues in beta MB and released a new version of MBS.
Also fixed small issues and resumed my work on spam reports and conversion to React.
Started to convert the 145K existing Bandcamp URLs to use the scheme https, using direct database updates (in the same way we did for Wikidata, Discogs, and so on).
Note about direct database updates: Edit data is untouched, thus it remains possible to know if an URL has initially been entered with the scheme http.

I finally got started doing data analysis on real MB spam data (thanks yvanzo!) which is going to play heavily into the design of SpamBrainz’ neural network model. I expect to release the html export of the Jupyter notebook in the next couple of days.
Other than that I “helped” @samj1912 with solr by telling him to just throw more ram at it

This week I did mentoring and working on the edit logic in the server
@shivamt is making reasonable progress and we’re aiming to get the first OpenLibrary data imported into a running BookBrainz server within a week
On the edit logic, I found a harmless bug which is causing loads of duplicate data to enter the db and started working on tidying up that and similar code
That’s in preparation for adding the code to process relationships on the server

Last week I worked on the reviews done by ruaok for LB-352, LB-367. And started to work on creating artist clusters where I got stuck after finding LB-368. I believe LB-368 extends to LB too

so I have been working on mass ISRCS adding and doing some Japanese cover albums
however whenever I link the Amazon link to the album the image from amazon does not come up I dont know what the issue is cause I did not have problems before a few month ago
and Now I have to manually add the album picture to the album on mb
so I was wondering if you guys could possibly look into that
(@CatQuest: sounds like a ticket to me)
(@Freso: Amazon cover images are a bit hit-and-miss. Generally, if you’re sure what Amazon has is correct (it isn’t always), uploading it to CAA is preferred.)
Yeah most of the time they are those
and I make sure to by getting the correct image

Microsoft to acquire GitHub for $7.5 billion - Stories

Discussion about GitHub getting bought by Microsoft and whether we should take any action in response.

The consensus was to not take any immediate action, but look into other options (notably GitLab) in case Microsoft does do something to or with GitHub that means we want to leave ASAP.

Related to this, there were some inquiries about how PR/patch reviewing works on GitLab compared to GitHub and other questions and comments and comparisons, but consensus remained the same throughout.
