This week was mostly traveling
We worked on some cool LB graphs at the summit. Apart from other things

Also, submitted my final GSoC proposal. So yay there!

this week they let me onto the plane, woo!
tuesday was travel, wednesdday was total and complete overload of every conceivable sense I used to be in possession of. wow.
delhi is a red hot mess, let me tell you.
then thursday and friday was our mini summit. I wasn’t certain how productive we could be, but in the end it was amazing.
we huddled in the hotel cafe for a few hours every day and focused on LB and CB, with a dash of MsB/MB.
that was really needed in a lot of ways.
we figured out how we should work with bigquery and what graphs for pursue – really nice accomplishments that let us get on with work for the next few months.
I’ll let @ferbncode talk more about the CB ideas we had – all around good stuff.
and then param and suyash didn’t really want to get back on the bus home, we nearly spent the weekend in delhi hacking together a primitive music recommendation engine.
in the end friends prevailed and the two of them left.
in a true mad-dash delhi style drama to catch the bus.
busy week – but this reminds me that we should have more mini summits with a little more focus that the big general summits.

This week was really fun. Met with ruaok, iliekcomputers and chhavi_ in Delhi. we had a discussion on graphs in LB and CB roadmap. It was really amazing. I’ve written a community post for CB future ideas:
Where should CritiqueBrainz go in the future?
(feedback please).
Also, started working on call for action in case cover art missing on CB pages.

I was in Delhi this week too

We did a lot of stuff there
After that, I took part in a hackathon with a few close friends, and then did review of proposals.
I also opened a PR adding functionality to follow other people (while I was half drunk) to CB
(but that’s on the backburner for now)

Mostly this week/weekend I’ve been on the phone cursing at fedex for being the incompetent twats that they are.
I have twice been told that it will arrive so and such day and each day I waited from 9 to 18 but it just mysteriously didn’t arrive, and nobody phones me or tell’s me anything. I am furious! D:
In Better news:
Since reosarevok added STYLE-936 I’ve been adding Ensembles and Family Instruments!
Which has led to a re-creation of the Tamburica instrument /s
(also renamed a “guitars” instrument :x)
further I’ve been working on many gci instruments, and the huquin instrument family of chinese instruments
some work with reo with the string ensembles (mostly him this time :o)
and today some work on the brass ensembles and how things in trumpet families sit together
This week is easter so attendance will be somewhat spotty
but I’ll continue work on ensembles and families
it’s fun!

I mainly worked on migration to React with PR and reviews,
tackled a few issues related to Wikipedia extracts at the same time, and worked on the spam thing too.
I also reviewed GSoC application proposals, fiddled a bit with Markdown support in JIRA.

I had a rather slow week, preparing and packing for ROD 2018 - MusicBrainz
Which is where I am at now!
I approved a couple of new languages on Transifex.
And mailed a bit with Y-Vonne (the organisation workflow/policy consultant the MeB is working with to review said things).
And other than that a bit of IRC and foruming.

I mostly worked on https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-server/pull/623
finished converting all the core entities’ sidebars. only pages with non-react sidebars left are cdstub, collection, and edit pages
just gonna fix the test failures and then move on to the meattofu of the entity pages

Usual server maintenance: we upgraded most servers and rebooted them (few left)
i also fixed a bunch of small issues related to Grafana 5 upgrade
i set up critiquebrainz stats asked by ruaok
also preparing for next Picard beta (issues review/comment, PRs etc…)
plus a bunch of edits, and few comments on forums

This week I worked on my proposal and modified it according to the suggestions from ruaok
Now I’ve added examples from the data dump available, added stats to show how much the algorithms will accomplish. And now I got some questions from alastairp which i’ll try to answer ASAP.

So this week I reviewed the three BookBrainz proposals for GSoC
I thought they were all pretty good so far, so I’m looking forward to seeing the final submissions
Also chatted with bukwurm quite a bit on IRC
And talked with OpenLibrary about using their data in BookBrainz

This was was a bit stressfull and fun too.
I worked on understanding MB codebase for importing ratings. Then I posted my initial draft of the proposal. The weekend was wholly-owned by the hackathon organized here, then today I finished up with the final draft of my SoC proposal after @iliekcomputers suggestions.

I have worked on improvements and new additions to my GSoC proposal this week and today I will work more on it according to the feedback by alastairp for the final submission tomorrow.

I have also started working on a feature which will allow the users to download the entire dataset of any other user in a single click.

we’ve come up with some ideas that are basically focussed on increasing user engagement with the site
like stuff like comments on reviews, following other people, community picks etc.
We were hoping for feedback on our ideas from the community

Supported browsers update

it’s been 6 months since we last updated our supported browsers list, so I checked the stats again
not much has changed from Making sure you're not a bot! but here are the results:
safari stays at 9.0
chrome jumps from 44 → 49
edge stays at 14
ie stays at 11
firefox jumps from 44 → 52
the highest version of opera in the list is 50.0 (at 0.22%) which should theoretically be covered by chrome, since they use chrome and follow their versioning

Firefox 52 is their current “ESR”.

There was some discussion about how to handle Opera. @Freso suggested that we could «make a note on the “supported browsers” list that Opera and Chrome should be the same, but Opera users should let us know if Opera behaves much differently from Chrome», which was agreed upon as an acceptable solution.
