I’ve been busy getting back to speed with college stuff.
But I did get some MeB work done over the week.
Made some more changes to LB data dumps (hopefully will get released soon)
Talked with ferbncode about possible CB gsoc ideas and LB gsoc
Also, was gonna sit and try to deploy latest CB but hit a block there.

I was pretty slacky TBH.
bouncing around the globe catching up with friends, doing minimal email.
but the GSoC app and ideas page (thanks to freso for picking up the slack on that dangling agenda item from last week) are in good enough shape for now.
we should continue working on the ideas page and you can expect me to poke you on that further.
but if all goes well, LB is my near sole focus this week.

this week was mostly spent on working with zas
first on securing solr and fixing it on test.mb for x accel stuff
I also wrote a solr test release blog

the rest of the week was spent on planning picard 2.0 release with zas
we think its stable enough now and we are trying to push some extra features and mending bugs before making an official release
the biggest blocker is the packaging for windows and osx
apart from that, did a lot of picard reviews
zas has been keeping me busy with PRs

So I finally put up next round of mockups for Artist page redesign. What we have done is, we actually have an overview page, which guess what, actually gives an overview. And this overview leads to detailed pages showing recordings, releases, events, etc.
Also have started to decide how it will look on other mobile devices.
The other thing I did this week was think about how we are going to implement these mockups. After a lot of research, I figured we need a design system sort of thing. Here is the link where I wrote down the pointers.

I was sick the better part of last week, and then I went to Copenhagen to help my mom with her recent move over the weekend, so didn’t get as much done as I wanted to.
GCI is almost wrapped up now, we need a bit of debate about who to pick for finalist positions, but even that seems almost clear.
(You’ll find out the final results in 9 days. ;))
Looked into some reported editors, and removed some spam.

Last week, I worked on caching more small queries (specifically for Language, Script, and so on), spam hiding, and updated handling of Bandsintown URLs.
I reviewed a bunch of PRs again. Thanks to naiveai and spellew for their continuous contributions.
Finally, I made final reviews for GCI and added MB gsoc ideas with bitmap, based on MetaBrainz Summit 17 discussions, based on last year users survey results.

Practically I haven’t done anything noteworthy as such in the last week. I just added the ‘type’ to few artists in MusicBrainz database. Also I introduced few of my friends to MusicBrainz as they wanted to get some information regarding an artist and his release : )

I was trying to add a feature to uninstall a plugin in picard
and reading about python asynio library as picard is going to use them in future. And tweaked picard a litle bit

Last week I went to Lapland, saw reindeer and northern lights and stuff
Other than that, I kept up with support
And I dealt with a pair of style tickets, one to add a type for educational institution places of which we have a ton, and one to mark on which ones people studied

Firstly finished up with GCI, and we did a lot of data entry tasks over the last weekend
About 20, I think
Well done to all the GCI students (and mentors)
Apart from that I’ve been working on the BookBrainz relationship editor. At the moment I’ve got a form where you can select the entity type, an entity and a relationship type
I also realised that not everything has to be written using Redux
So this form will maintain its own internal React state, then submit to the Redux state of the app when the “save” button is pressed
I tried out Redux-form and that’s pretty good, but don’t know whether I’ll use it anywhere in BB yet
Next week I’ll be doing some schema changes to implement entity-type specific relationships

Last week I did a bit of code review and went over GSoC ideas with yvanzo
Updated MBS-9599, MBS-9600, MBS-9603: Support other gettext domains in the JS by mwiencek · Pull Request #599 · metabrainz/musicbrainz-server · GitHub to create separate JS files (bundles) for each gettext domain, so we only include the strings on the pages that use them
Helped spellew with some of the React PRs they submitted to MBS
Reviewed a thoughtful MB redesign plan chhavi wrote up
Worked on factoring out pieces from my MBS-4501 branch into separate branches for submission (because it’s over 5000 lines altogether)

i worked mainly on backup system, which is in place, but i still have few things to fix
apart that, usual server supervision, overall things are working smoothly atm
i made few Picard PRs, and currently i’m trying to fix few more issues i detected

I worked with naiveai to get his voting plugin done (although he doesn’t seem to be here today).
Thanks to everyone who helped by coming up with ideas, giving feedback and reviewing the PR!
I mostly spent my time trying to keep him from sneaking in any more features
Other than that I wrote a GSoC idea entry for SpamBrainz

Hey, sorry for steping in so late, but yay, GCI is over, that means I probably won’t be around for a bit until I finally get done with my senior year and get out of high school and get into a college where I’ll hopefully have a lot more time to work on *Brainz projects (+ I’ll be elligible for GSoC \0/)

So we planned in the summit, that once I am done with the mockups. Someone with knowledge of code, will slice it up into tickets and then the development will go ahead. There a problems like a lot of dependency on designers for assets/crosschecking, etc
I did a little research and a good way to go about it would be to have a design system. Simply put, design system is basically a story of how we design and develop our projects. It will have all the colors, icons, components, etc.
