I submitted a pr to fix the caa indexer so it stops crashing (by losing connection to the db), and can reload config on sighup
I worked on hooking the sample db dumps into cron and rsyncing them to ftp
ftp://ftp.musicbrainz.org/pub/musicbrainz/data/sample/
very happy to see that people are finding them useful
did some code review, got some good gci submissions to mbs
updated jenkins to fix some security vulnerabilities

So the last three weeks of mine have been mostly for moving and holidaying and travelling, so I’ve only just been able to keep my head above waters… somewhat.
But I’ve officially moved to Sweden (Malmö) now.
I’ve poked at forums, kept up with IRC, participated in an MeB board meeting, did a Discourse upgrade, and a ton of Google Code-in’ing—trying to keep mentors from burning out as best I can and dealing with some troublesome students.
Currently I’m trying hard to catch up on my backlog from the last ~month while also keeping up with the things I’ve already caught up on.
Another thing I’ve done is, in response to the spam incidents we’ve had in both channels recents, inviting Sigyn to both channels.
Sigyn is Freenode’s anti-spam bot and will kick spammers based on some criteria.
She’s already kicked at least one spammer from this channel that I noticed.
So seems like she’s working—but feel free to poke me if you find out she’s malfunctioning and I’ll pass it on to her devs.

So, I did support, including a ton of stuff that had been picked by gmail’s spam filter. Sigh, gmail.
Other than that, some style stuff (MBS-9587: Add a few Japanese lyrics sites to the whitelist is waiting for devs, STYLE-884: Add an equivalent to “discography page” for works is in, STYLE-848: Explicit guidance for inclusion/exclusion of artist name in release title is waiting for Leftmost to stop slacking and say something)
Some GCI stuff, and a lot of fixing classical adds, because everyone has too much time in Christmas

The last two weeks of the year was mad!
First week was mad! first I had a personal issue, then my mac developed very bad issues with its fan.
Second week I took my mac to the repairshop, and it’s gonna be some extra costs to repair, but within a budget I have
(oh and, it was Yule and everything :P)
First week of the new Year was Mad! I’ve been doing GCI task mentoring on GamePC!
Much thanks to reosarevok and MajorLurker for helping me with instruments, second opinions and general being awesome at mentoring loads of tasks (mostly this one isMajorLurker :P)
I aim for the next week to continue gci task mentoring and getting my mac back!
I’ve also been adding instruments, making a task for a spesific student who was doing baltic instrument fixes
and “helping” yvanzo with the instrument mockup task

so, we finally did it, Solr is live indexing (and is generally up) after like 5 years of dev(acc. to ruaok :P)
I am so glad to see the Grafana graph
there were a couple of glitches and we managed to bring MB down a couple of times during the holidays
but yeah, it seems to be stable now

I have been working on integrating it with MB
the PR is done and I am waiting for a merge
we will be doing some round of testing on test.mb next
now the next major hurdle with solr is to fix the results
solr doesn’t currently have all the analyzers as the current search so I will be spending this month porting them over
and maybe improving them so we finally have some good search results
apart from that battled PG and am in the process of learning perl for my next task mb ws2.5

samj1912 and I also had the pleasure of trying to figure out why postgres was running a fever.
with zas in the air and bitmap asleep, we realized that we didn’t even know how to restart postgres.
there are zero docs for trying to fix anything that does wrong.
that is something we need to fix, because all of our eggs are too concentrated in a few people.
we need to know how to carry out basic tasks for when shit goes wrong, but we had nothing.
not sure when to do something about it, but if this happens next time and I don’t know what to do, I’ll walk away and wait for zas/bitmap. or wake them up.
but doing that with a flu really sucked.
anyways, I had a flu, so I was mostly useless.
but I still got people paid, contracts renewed and did our finances.

not much done, i was in family/children/christmas/trip mode
but i kept on eye on things, and we had few issues with servers (as ruaok said)
i kept everythin upgraded
i upgraded influxdb used by grafana, has a small issue due to undocumented change, fixed
i reviewed a bunch of PRs, related to mbs, picard, solr
also the great news coming with this new year: uber security issue in cpus … we’ll have to patch in few days
it will imply downtimes : firrmwares + kernel upgrades + various libs
more on this when actual fixes will be ready
i did a bunch of edits too, as usual

Last three weeks, I mentored some GCI students for the project MusicBrainz: Daniel, Enjeck, Vinita, JYK for Design/Research; naiveaiguy, haruute, spellew for Code too. They all did worthy contributions, some of these are already available in beta. Thank you again!
I fixed small issues for MusicBrainz and CoverArtArchive redirect, reviewed a bunch of PRs, and have been looking at load issues on queen then on bowie.
I updated MusicBrainz server on December 21, and pushed a new beta on January 3. Next release is planned for today. The two weeks release is 2018

I’m from India, I’ve done 8 metabrainz tasks in total
most of them were editing and adding releases
i faced some problems but all the mentors sorted them out
especially MajorLurker

I did a lot of work on LB and MessyBrainz over the holidays, adding Jenkins to MessyBrainz, data dumps and other stuff like tests etc. Did some documentation updates for LB and worked with Rob on LB dumps. Worked on sentry for LB too.
I’m spending the first two weeks of January in Thailand, mostly lazing around and sightseeing, but I’ve been trying to keep up with LB stuff too. Should be back to college in a week.

I have been adding a lot of cds from Japan as well as going to previous works that I have added and adding lyric sites to those works. I am now planning to go and add some compilation albums of my favorite artist as well as try to get some help with id some recordings that might or might not be the same.

So I’ve been doing the documentation/training tasks on musicbrainz and bookbrainz
know only basic c++ code so completing the no code tasks
I had a hiccup with the very first release task, wasn’t able to submit my acoustid but was finally able to resolve that
So I hope to complete my last release task next and maybe try some code tasks hopefully
thankyou to the mentors for helping me put! Sadly my first and last GCI but the expereince was amazing thankyou!

I processed some GCI tasks and did a bit of code review. I also kicked out some BB PRs to fix a number of issues or improve things, the most visible of which is that now identifiers are tied to the appropriate entity types, preventing users from adding new identifiers which can’t apply to the entity they’re editing.

I did a variety of things. I added two reports to MB which I am very proud of. First time I’ve worked with SQL significantly
did some duplicate refactoring for BB which was also very nice thanks Leftmost and LordSputnik!
also improved french guess-case, and did a thing on whipper

been busy with exams/new year/college applications/exams again.
picked up GCI again today, will make sure I get my duties done; but another set of exams start friday, so :meh:. But seeing only a week is left for GCI, I’m really happy with what all we’ve got done this year.

I updated my PRs AB-297: Add docker support for development by ferbncode · Pull Request #234 · metabrainz/acousticbrainz-server · GitHub and AB-117: Add functions for creating dataset dumps by ferbncode · Pull Request #238 · metabrainz/acousticbrainz-server · GitHub in AB after the CustomFlask and Redis changes in AB. Also, helped with the GCI tasks for CB. Also, had some discussion with iliekcomputers on improving CB tests.

So we made another round of progress on BB mockups. I did round 2 mockups of the landing page, bulk editing interface and relationship editor.
Since I am familiar with UX messups in MusicBrainz now, I am really trying to keep Leftmost and Ben aware of them and avoid them. Both have been really cool about it
This week I will be moving things for MusicBrainz mockups.
Also started learning React, so far so good

I’ve been working on tasks for critiquebrainz and bookbrainz, with a couple of no code tasks in the beginning
Was having trouble with the first critiquebrainz task because I couldn’t set up the env through docker, but the other tasks helped with furthering my understanding of sql and data structures in general, which I think will be helpful down the line
And, uh, thanks to all the mentors here who’ve helped me, or anyone else who’s answered my questions in irc

I mentored some more GCI tasks, mostly BrainzBot and did some own work on that project and while it’s not perfect yet, the setup has been improved quite a lot and is actually pretty fast now (now it won’t download and compile Node.js if you already have npm installed!)
I also went to the 34th Chaos Communication Congress which was great fun and my MusicBrainz sticker was even recognized by a few people
If more people are planning to attend next year’s C3, we could maybe even organize an assembly like the OSM community does.
