Another week of fixing bugs in LB. We found that the last.fm API can sometimes be inconsistent on the number of listens it shows on the website and in the API. So, I added a cautionary message for that to the importer. There was another scare when the number of listens in LB and BigQuery didn’t match up, but we got that fixed pretty quickly, phew.

This week i worked on my PR CB-231: Update db access function and helpers for multiple entities. by ferbncode · Pull Request #121 · metabrainz/critiquebrainz · GitHub . Other than that, I tried some things to set the test database (some issues there, working on them). Couldn’t do much as I was sick all week. :(. Will cover things up this week for sure

Well, I moved to Nantes, in a shared flat and we still have 2 chairs for 3 people, but I will be up this week.

I fixed a minor issue with json dumps due to missing pkeys
made caa-indexer recover properly when it gets “heartbeat lost” errors
added track positions to the json ws output, looked into other json ws tickets
moved the dbmirror stuff I was working on to a separate repo
did some code review and merging

last week had a few annoying IRL things that kept distracting me. including a low grade cold. ergo a bit of a slow week.
but, I kept on the LB stuffs, working with iliekcomputers to fix bug, call for testing, repeat.
we’re getting closer, but all y’all have been hearing that for weeks now. O_O
Quesito and Freso and I did some summit planning and it was fun to tell Quesito about the utter lack of pre-organization at previous summits.
we’ve also instructed her to ensure we forget napkins.
for the past 10 years now, I’m sure. the only thing older are genres.
I’ve also reached out to the guy who makes the musicbrainz-docker files and he’s agreed to let me adopt that repo and work with me to make it be the underpinning repo for the VM. I hope to work on that more this week.
I’ll be out friday as I fly down to Alemería to give my keynote on Saturday.

did a bit of emails and a still a tiny bit of accounting, and meeting for my introduction to the world of MeB summits…

I had a meeting with Quesito and ruaok about the summit planning. And I tried to keep up with IRC and forums.

last few weeks, been doing some SoC mentoring
working with ferbncode and iliekcomputers and ruaok
on CB and LB
I just wanted to point out that both ferbncode and iliekcomputers are doing great work, I’m really pleased with how projects are going this year
(Oh, I also had some interesting discussions with cjnolet_)

mainly GSoC mentoring, code review, very interesting things are coming up with Picard (json ws, thx to samj), and trips planning
plus usual bunch of security updates, minor issues fixes
atm everything is working pretty well
we had issues with some servers but it looks like i found a way to make them work

I continued work on fixing indexing in solr, that part is kind of annoying
I don’t completely understand how it works and have to wait for Mineo to have time to help me out
but the fixes I’ve been working on are mostly done, I think
also integrated pylint into CB build so that it’s easier to find common issues now
reviewed and deployed a bunch of stuff

this week was spent on another large migration of the picard codebase
mainly moving all the MB stuff to the json api
I did Add helper functions for the JSON MB API by sambhav · Pull Request #759 · metabrainz/picard · GitHub and gh:P#760
760 will be merged once the MB WS changes make it to live site from beta
which bitmap tells me should happen today
the move also helped us figure out a couple of differences in the JSON API and XML one

In couple of days I should finish writing React components for showing search results (component per entity). Soon I will focus on writing components for different type of search conditions and fix some issues with UI. In general everything is moving forward but little bit behing the schelude (working extra hours also during this week).

This week I made some emergency adjustments to the elasticsearch configuration on the BookBrainz server, to reduce memory consumption by half to 1GB. Also looked into moving to Solr, and it looks like that should take less than 5 hours for our current use.
I also made quite a bit of progress on completely dropping Select2, which should increase client JS performance and also allow us to drop jQuery as a dependency. Just a couple of bugs to get rid of.

So a little time ago, I looked at some accounts and cleared out some privileges from “old” accounts, notably ocharles and kuno.
I kind of want to go over all current privileged accounts and remove privileges for accounts that aren’t using them or aren’t currently active.
My primary concern is that old accounts get compromised, and not that I don’t trust the actual people behind them to still be able to administer their elevated privileges.

@Rob asked which privileges were targeted for this, @Freso replied «Relationship editors, transclusion editors, location editors.»

No objections were raised and a couple mentions of it sounding reasonable. Motion carried.

I’m sure all of you are sick of hearing all the calls for importing you stuff into LB by now.
but, we could use a few more people to help us by importing their last.fm histories.
I’d like to get at least 1M listens into the DB soon
so, if you haven’t please do so soon: https://beta.listenbrainz.org
getting the ingestion pipeline right was our core focus.
and I think we’re close. of course we’ve been close for a while, but that is how it goes, no?
so, please import. I’ve tweeted a few times.
