I worked on a bunch of beta bugs that popped up this week during our last lap of deployment and stuff.
Also, I sent a PR creating the postgres schema in which we’ll store LB statistics, so GSoC work is (mostly) on schedule too. \o/
Hopefully, the beta gets done soon, so I can focus on stats more, don’t wanna fail in the GSoC evaluations.

Oh, I stared working on the new plugin system for picard which includes a manifest similar to chrome extensions. We have a new repo on MeB gh, picard-plugin-tools in case anyone wants to take a look
This is still in progress and will included a bunch of tools to help with picard plugin development

I was fixing the broken replication packet at the beginning of last week
then I spent some more time debugging dbmirror (though I don’t have any patch yet) and mostly doing code review and re-deploying test.mb for solr testing
also starting fixing some issues with the json dumps related to entities not being deleted properly, but nothing major

Support, plus added a new relationship attribute for liner notes translation that was requested earlier today. I set up the NWR/CRI db but haven’t had the time to play with it enough yet.
That’s about it for me, other than a lot of editing.

took a wee break this week (tried too atleast, mb is too addictive! /:O)
tried to work as arbitrant to let nikki’s scripts come into licence which we could use
this seems could not be done - the only answer for now is to have someone (preferably not even looked at nikki’s code) rewrite them - I’ll create some tickets that outlines what said scripts should do - and then let our very talented scriptwriters figure out best how to accomplish the needs, with their own code.

I spent a lot of time on IRC and forums last week and also got around to making the April community recap blog post.
I also did some catching up on the KEXP situation, worked with LordSputnik to get him access to the GCI 2016 files, added a Chinese translator to Transifex team (still need to finish that up, he wrote me again), reviewed and published CatQuest’s 2nd INST update blog post, and finally rounded the week off with the HMA stuff.
Of other news, I went to the Floor Wars Spain battle event this Saturday, which was great fun.
First Floor Wars event I’ve been to outside DK.

restored discourse after a failure, unblackisted few IPs, set up new servers yehudi & burnside, configured them to handle only ws traffic, as a result we are now handling all incoming requests, remaining 503s are due to IP/UA rate limit, discuss about the possibility to exchange some of our PX61 servers for those new AX50 servers, less expensive, less RAM, more CPU cores, as they are a better match for our needs. PRs review, new Picard project picard-plugin-tools was set up. I also created few more grafana graphs, updated nagios & telegraf configuration.

to follow up on zas…
we were going to get two new servers of the usual type.
usual type being 64GB and 4 core with hyoerthreading.
which are not a good match for us now – we need more CPU, less ram.
hetzner has a new type based on AMD chips. €12 cheaper, 32GB ram, 6 cores + HT.
perfect!
we’re getting 20% - 25% more performance out of these machines.
so, we are currently honoring 100% of all valid requests!
to the tune of 40M requests in a day.
so, this is a big deal, really.
we’re going to let go of 4 of our existing servers and replace them with cheaper servers.
they are going to pay for themselves in 6 months I estimate.
this feels really good. clear we have a lot of work to do to optimize things, but we’re moving in the right direction.

now for quesitos report: she was on vacation.
previously she was half working, half off. she still did some work wrangling some invoice matters.
but, for the first time in… ever… I’m looking at how much money is inbound and I’m really happy. we’re in a good spot right now.

we did a deal recently that has some money earmarked for cool people in our life.
I think the metabrainz staff can expect a bonus next month.
but, I want to share some of the love with not only staff members.

we handed out concert vouchers and I hope people have been using those.

I spent a bunch of time doing reviews for iliekcomputers and then deploying to beta.
that quickly uncovered more bugs, but iliekcomputers was on them and fixed them. I’m trying to do some reviews, but I keep getting distracted by amazing noms and stunning temples.
then I ran off for a ride in a shiny new A350 that still had that “new airplane smell” and I’m now in Bangkok, not working all that much.

I upgraded sentry, documented the process for the future
will do the same for jenkins
continued working on solr components and bringing them up to date with the schema change
deployed updated version of sir and triggers
hard to say how much longer it will take
I know of a few issues, but it’s running now

It seems I’m slowly starting to understand what I’m supposed to be doing xD I’m currently toying with some UI code for search results written for earlier gsoc 2015 search project by ruchiranga (& bitmap). Idea is that most of the UI will be new (except search results components for artist & area entities). I still have quite little concrete to report but story continues next week

This week I worked on fixing my pull request for MB database access using the musicbrainz-test-database. thanks to bitmap for all the great help.
also, waving from city of Jamshedpur. roamed the weekend in kolkata and eastern India :D. so didn’t do anything else :P.

Well, I worked on admin tools to report spammers, but for the current job scripts will do.
I also fixed an issue with admin revocation of user editing/voting, tried to debug tests renderer issue and reviewed PRs.

I spent most of last week preparing and then writing my Cambridge Proficiency exam which I feel went pretty well
I’d like to take some time during this meeting to talk about finally releasing the survey, can we add that to the agenda?

So I started this week in San Francisco
Met arthelon and anshuman73, which was great
We all had a fantastic time, learnt lots from Google and talked about MetaBrainz and BookBrainz
anshuman73 and arthelon both gave a great joint presentation on MetaBrainz, and we got a nice mention by the guy in charge of open source stuff at Google
Then I came back, and fixed the bookbrainz-site testing
And then merged a PR by arthelon which upgrades us to npm5 and fixes dependency versions that get installed. This makes the environment more reproducible between users
Now just working on fixing our coverage reporting, and then I’ll be merging the new entity display pages and making a new BookBrainz release
(the first since September!!)
Oh, and one of the GCI mentors seems to be interested in helping out with BookBrainz
