I see I liked your post, but I must have skimmed over this part, sorry!
MusicBrainz has always had a strict policy of not changing our data schema to make up for shortcomings in external products/apps/software… this includes ListenBrainz.
In my experience this means that, regardless of the convenience factor, we put artists into the artist field. Having a catch-all/company in the artist field, even if that is how it is credited on the platform, does not match the schema. Changing practices for certain platforms or edge cases can make sense at the time, but it can break what users/apps expect from the database as a whole, which should always be avoided imo.
The only exception I know of is if the artist/s really are unknown, in which case we sometimes put in a parent artist that makes more sense than the rather clunky [unknown] (Nintendo Sound Team, etc).
