[MusicBrainz] is primarily for a non-professional users cataloguing their collections of CDs.

It may be for you, but that is not a universally held belief—or even an officially stated purpose of MusicBrainz—and indeed many things that MusicBrainz can (and does) capture are entirely unrelated to cataloguing CD collections.

My understanding is that the MB project grew out of a tagging library, but is primarily a database. The first sentence of the About page has said as much since 2003.
