AFAIK, this is all that is known so far. The person who contributed the audio files remains anonymous (as is their right) as their content may either be from a really early scrape, or rescued from some kind of internal back-up?
I know that the meta-data is “as is”, as can be seen in the correspondence included with that data dump. As is always the case, I hope to do more on this project to expand it further but time is limited and my attention is drawn all over the place

Thanks for sharing what you know. Hopefully, in due time we’ll see more and if not, what was shared is already a great surprise. And I can 100% relate to the attention being drawn all over the place haha. Thanks!

This is great! I’m curious if there’s any way to cross-reference the songs listed on the artist’s page with the file names listed in the mp3-com-rescue-barge directory listing pages?
probably; ive just moved hosting provider and have been busy with other wordly matters; might be something I can look at over the winter period

Sound And Vision, your mp3-2003.computer-legacy site is extremely helpful as I can access the artists page and determine the genre/location. It seems to have gone away. " The webpage at https://mp3-2003.computer-legacy.com/artists/browse-D.html might be temporarily down or it may have moved to a new web address." I was curious will you share this again or is it just down temporarily. Thank you!
Ha, i didnt realise people were still seeing this so regularly; yes its still about im just in the middle of moving hosting providers!
Should be back up by 3rd June all going well

Awesome, the artist pages have been a godsend! I imagine it will take me years to go through all the mp3s and organize by genre & location but I’m chipping away. It’s been an experience listening to all the different types of music haha. Thanks for all the work you’ve put in to this & shared with all of us!

little update on this, it’s taking a bit longer than hoped - will let everyone know when it’s all back and working again

another little update - so ive managed to drag all the files from the old host onto a disk here and its now uploading - you’ll see the main pages of the website are now available but artist pages will slowly come, then links, then song pages and finally images.
we’re talking 100,000’s of files mounting to about 30GB+ so it takes a while but its
happening

Hi again! Haha. I was just curious if the url changed for searching artists. Example, I’m trying https://mp3-2003.computer-legacy.com/artists/browse-E.html and I’m getting "404 Not Found—nginx/1.24.0 (Ubuntu).
As always, I’m super appreciate of the work you’ve put in to share this with us! Thank you!
That seems to be working for me at the moment - can you try it again please?
Try and access the website without HTTPS if possible.
On my Windows PC the http link works in Firefox, but Vivaldi (chrome based) gives a 404. Works on Brave (also chrome based). Maybe a problem on a browser that is forcing https?
The certificate provided by the server is only valid for computer-legacy.com and www.computer-legacy.com, but not for the subdomain mp3-2003.computer-legacy.com

Little update on this, I’ve managed to restore the info pages which are useful for getting information about artists.
Somehow it was missing from a backup that I used when moving providers, so I’ve had to re-process and upload those pages fresh.
