When it comes to fingerprints with breaks, one usually thinks of a technical problem on the part of the user. But that’s not always the cause…
“Heavy Fuel”, remastered 1996 is 14 seconds longer than the original version, released on the original album, singles and compilations (until 1996). But the additional music wasn’t found on either end. It was inserted in two portions somewhere in the middle. The first part was inserted at ~1:21 and therefore shows up in the fingerprint:
(verified fingerprints from acoustIDs of the original version and the 1996 remaster)
Waveforms comparison of synchronized tracks:
(0 = first sound of the recordings)
Up to this point, both recordings are absolutely synchronous. After that they are also synchronous.
(0 = end of the first inserted section)
Afterwards both are absolutely the same again, until the end…
(0 = end of the second inserted section)
Of course, these recordings must not be merged under any circumstances. And I’m still thinking about a suitable disambiguation for the “remastered version”… ![]()
