Make It Bun Dem... English or Jamaican Creole?

howdy~ hoping to find someone familiar with Jamaican Creole to help me identify if Make It Bun Dem is a song in English with a thick accent or Jamaican Creole.

most of the song sounds like English with an accent, except for the breakdown (called Verse 1 on Genius), which sounds more like Jamaican Creole to me (tho I’m not at all familiar with the language)

some links that’ll help y’all:

Reading the lyrics, it looks like 98% English.
We can set several languages so at least set English.

Then we discuss if we add Créole for the few other words.

to my limited understanding, Jamaican Creole is closely related to English, which is why I’m hesitant to add English at the moment. that said, I could be mistaken (and how closely related, I’m not sure either)

That depends on who you ask. Currently, I am reading linguist John McWhorters book “The Power of Babel” and he is quite adamant that Jamaican Creole is NOT English.

I have also thought about this but never really lent much time towards it; I thought “why isn’t [Jamacian] Patois” a language
