Lookup without existing metadata

I have this 2CD disc as an MP3:

https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/f1e32d85-e6e8-302b-9e43-2af4e38ba19c

I tried clearing the tags in Mp3Tag, loaded it into Picard and pressed Lookup.

There are results despite the lack of metadata at the beginning. So what was Picard guided by in this case?

The title guessed from the filename. See your screenshot on the left.

But the accuracy is about 50%. Almost random. And there are 6 files on the left side.

See the results after Scan.

Sorry, I will not have another “I removed all metadata, why are lookup results bad?” discussion with you. By now you should have understood the difference between lookup and scan, and why existing metadata is important for matching.

As you can see on your first screenshot the available data is not much. E.g. it tries to find a track that is literally titled “Cream - Badge” and it didn’t find a convincing result.

Update: actually it likely didn’t get any result:

But I’m not complaining about bad results. Where did you get that?

I use Scan and I’m very happy with it.

I’ve shown that Lookup does a poor job of matching tags based on the file.

Do you understand?
