The Listenbrainz Android app grabs notifications and scobbles their content. I would like to see a similar program for Linux. Most music players are not really actively developed. This would open all of them for Listenbrainz.

This actually already exists. Have a look at GitHub - mariusor/mpris-scrobbler: A minimalistic user daemon to submit the songs you're playing to audioscrobbler services like listenbrainz.org, libre.fm and last.fm.

There are a few Linux/Unix ListenBrainz submitters and players listed here: ListenBrainz add data page
Sometimes untested/new submission apps are also listed on the Wiki, before being ‘upgraded’ to the ListenBrainz page.
