Implications of AI generated content

They openly welcome AI generated slop on their platform already, might as well cut the middle man and flood the platform themselves, lol.

Maybe Spotify should change their name to SpotifAI

Meanwhile at Deezer:

i like this idea. it should be clear that it is ai generated what you are about to listen. it would be nice if ALL platforms would handle it like this.

In my opinion, what would be even better is if all platforms provided the user with an option to block all AI generated content completely.

Found this garbage when I saw some of the artists I follow are featured artists here, definitely not them and after listening to 2 tracks they all feel AI generated.

That’s a recognized form of fraud that was the subject of another thread three years ago.

I saw this discussion on Bluesky Steven Hyden: “An Indiecast listener just pointed out that Spotify is streaming a terrible “new” Uncle Tupelo song that is obviously AI.” — Bluesky and it reminded me of this thread. Someone new is spamming Spotify and other platforms using AI generated slop and the names of established artists - something to be on the lookout for.

Why waste so much effort cataloguing AI-generated music?

Because it exists and affects the way music is made, perceived and valued. MB aspires to be a music encyclopedia after all.

I don’t know if anyone is putting in any effort to catalogue AI-generated music?

But if they are, it’s their time to do with as they wish.

Believe it or not but AI music can be popular. Too popular for some:

In other news:

Database specialized in cataloging AI music artists

I have added some that I know is AI generated, but only for those I’ve actually listened to. Some of them can be quite funny when it’s used for parody tracks.

In an era where it seems like most streaming services are boosting AI slop, one is pushing back:

I have been adding a few hundred streaming-only releases of singles, and that already raised the question for me if this is an unreasonable volume.

In general, my personal take as of now is, I don’t want to value a creation based on the tools used to create it. If someone put their name on something they created, and put it into the open, it should be taken at face value.

What is ultimately indexed/archived, is already based on subjective evaluation of the works. I choose what I want to spend my time on. If I was “tricked" into archiving “fake” works, then that probably makes them worth archiving.

This is a fair point. Even if something has a (subjective) negative value in the eyes of society, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth archiving. I’d argue the opposite is true, actually, so long as it’s done in an honest manner.

As an example outside of the topic of AI, I recently updated the disambiguation for the neo-nazi bonehead[1] band Skrewdriver to clarify up front who they are and what they stand for. Previously they had been disambiguated as a “RAC Oi! band”. RAC stands for Rock Against Communism, which started as a white supremacist music festival, and has since been repurposed as a sleight of hand to keep people from recognizing who they are up front and to get redscare-pilled Americans to listen to their music.

For those of us with a vested interest in knowing who the Nazis are, pulling off their scooby-doo disguises is vital. Do I want more people to listen to Skrewdriver, obviously not, but I do want people to know who they are, so that when they go searching for Oi! music they don’t end up with a list of neo-nazi bands to support.

The same could be said about AI. If you feel strongly about folks listening, creating, or distributing music that wasn’t made by humans, then we need to know who they are. If we just pretend like it doesn’t exist, we just give them the ability to do their thing in secret. Do you want nazis in 2026? Cuz that’s how you get nazis in 2026.

  1. what those of us in the skinhead scene call Nazi skins to separate ourselves from them. Skinhead is a working class subculture, not a racist one. ↩︎
