General advise: First press Cluster on your files, then use the “lookup” button on the clusters. Don’t use the “Scan” button (for acoustic fingerprinting with AcoustID) unless you have to (e.g. your files have absolutely no meaningful metadata, in which case neither cluster nor lookup will work well). In addition to what thebradleys said, you can also change the release types Picard prefers in settings under Options > Metadata > Preferred Releases. If you prefer albums over other releases, drag the album slider further to the right. If you don’t do compilations often, move the compilation slider further to the left. That does not mean Picard will never match a compilation, but if in doubt and there are multiple matches it will more likely prefer the album over the compilation. [image] Also…

Feature Request for better Fingerprint Scanning and Album matching from a cluster

Yes, scan only uses the fingerprints and ignores everything else. That’s why most people here recommend using Lookup (which makes use of existing tags and rakes clusters into account) first and Scan only if Lookup fails to give correct results. But I like the idea of having a more intelligent thing, that combines both tools.

One can also use the Search box to load a specific release in Picard, just copy’n’paste the url of the release in the Search box edit field, press Search, Picard will parse it, and use the mbid to load the release. This feature isn’t well documented, and is a bit hacky, but it is very useful imho. Note that if you paste a release group or artist URL, the behavior is different, Picard will open the URL in a browser.
