How to handle "living" albums?

I’m working on an edit to a release, and I’m wondering if it should be a separate release in the same release group, or an update to the existing release.

The album in question is Journeys by she (https://sheofficial.bandcamp.com/album/journeys). It is a digital-only album and occasionally the artist adds new tracks and re-arranges the order of existing tracks and updates the album art.

I know of at least two instances of this album being updated, once last year (for which I added a new release, thinking it was a one-off occurrence) and again today. It is possible this has happened even more times and I just haven’t noticed. It appears the artist is treating this as a “living” album of sorts.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Sounds to me like you should be adding a new release. For a similar situation, see https://beta.musicbrainz.org/release-group/cc836b99-9cb1-42a4-a87a-7d9ce1f63a08 where every so often the Artist will add another track to the digital album. Each is entered as a new release within the same release group.

Perfect, that’s exactly the kind of example I was looking for. Thanks for the help!

Not pretty but if there is new cover art and/or exact release date is known I think that’s okay.

Another way to handle this are recording series:

Biggest disadvantage in your case would be loss of existing cover art. :frowning:

That’s what I dislike about Bandcamp and the removal of RSS feeds

Just curious, are you eligible for any updates or do you have to purchase again?

You can purchase the songs individually, so I just purchased the new track by itself.
