how to I get vlc to use musicbrainz for title and over art lookup?
you could just use picard to update the metadata then open the songs in vlc.

Press CTRL + I on a track inside VLC and then press the “Fingerprint”-Button.
(not CTRL+J as mentioned in the outdated documentation… 
)
This should generate the Fingerprint and search for the additional metadata from AcoustID/MusicBrainz for this track.
