How to add the "musical genre" section?

Hi everyone!

Sometimes the genre is there, sometimes it’s not, and when that happens it messes up everything I’ve been doing. How do I make it always appear and make sure the genre is correct and not Russian words?
I made right click and from the dropdown choose “genre”, but the new tag never appeared.

Thank you very much.

You have to enter at least one value in the edit dialog.

Remember that you can also select multiple files and add the tag if all shall have the same genre set.

How can I add a value (what’s a value here, a name, a number)?

I mean enter the genre you want to have for the files as values.

E.g. you want to tag a couple of files with “hip hop”. You can select all the files, right click in the metadata pane, select add tag, in the dialog select “genre” and add a new value “hip hop”. If you click on Accept the new tag Genre with the values you entered will show up and can be saved to the files.

Picard can also pull genres automatically from MusicBrainz if you want this. You can enable fetching genres in Options > Metadata > Genres. If you then match your files against MusicBrainz releases on the right pane they will get genre data if available on MusicBrainz
