I don’t segregate FLAC from MP3. I segregate classical music from everything else.
I have a parent folder named “Music.” Under that, a folder for “Classical” and a folder for “Popular,” which is everything that doesn’t go under Classical.
Popular:
Music \ Popular \ genre \ albumArtist \ albumTitle
Classical:
Music \ Classical \ albumArtist \ albumTitle
Multiple-disc albums generally will have subfolders named “disc x,” where the flac/mp3 files reside.
“Various Artist” releases exist in:
- Music \ Popular \ Various Artists \ albumTitle (all non-classical genres)
OR - Music \ Classical \ Various Classical \ albumTitle
The Various Artists location should probably be re-thought at some point, but it’s been this way for a long time, and I haven’t thought about it much. It’s working so far.
