hi!
StyleMonkey ApekattQuest here!
We’ve been working on updating the user documentation behind the scenes quite a lot!
Back in February I and @mr_monkey set up a roadmap on how to tackle improving the user-docs, we’ve added stub-pages for each entity and we decided on a new theme that makes everything look a lot clearer!
I’ve been working on each page and the Author page has come to the point where we’d like suggestions for examples to clarify bits in the doc:
Without further ado we are looking for:
Examples of groups or collectives of authors
Examples of Personas, specifically those not just Pen Names, but which are also characters in a book.
Examples of Pen Names, this is for things that should be Author Credits & aliases.
Examples of people who exist in the database but are not writers, eg. photographers, pencillers, etc
Examples of Author Credits that differs from the Author’s name
We’d also like examples of anything you think we should have examples of. Read the current page and suggests examples you think will help explain points better!
(note, this page is a Work in Progress!! That means that the latter bit here might be a bit wobbly and confusing, you can just ignore any part that looks unfinished or confusing for now :D)
English translations of Japanese literature will often have an official name using the Japanese script that differs from the name credited on an English release. See The Apothecary Diaries, Volume 1 for an example where the author and illustrator are credited using the romanized versions of their names.
Name differences: Diane DiPrima vs. Diane di Prima / Franz Werneke vs. Prof. Dr. Franz Werneke / journalist abbreviations: eg lin for Christoph Lindemann
An example I remember was mentioned was Newt Scamander, as the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is published as written by him (a character), not J.K. Rowling, who actually wrote it.
Are there examples other you’re still looking for?
I had a similar example with ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, supposedly written by “Lemony Snicket” who appears as the narrator of the book series, but really a persona of Daniel Handler.
