Hello, new to tagging. Been having a lot of success except for the following cd set in my library. The release is Latin Nights. A 3 cd compilation. I attached images. if you’re able to find it please let me know how you did it.
many thanks in advance
Seems obscure! I couldn’t find this in either MusicBrainz or Discogs, so I went ahead and added it:
https://www.allmusic.com/album/latin-nights-mw0000663140 looks like it’s describing the same thing, so I used it as a starting point for the tracklist so I wouldn’t need to retype everything (note that the “Stream or buy” links on that page all point at unrelated releases, though).
Please feel free to add more to that release (e.g. disc IDs, scans, details that I couldn’t read from the photo) and fix mistakes. The way that the tracklist is printed on the back cover is weird, e.g. inline credits for “The Mario Pinia Band” on the first disc but “Mario Pinia & his Group” at the end of the third disc – I’m guessing that these are the same people.
Thank you everyone. I was able to match the metadata.
I have one more addition and one correction I think you should make.
Should I start a new string? or Add it here?
Feel free to mention it in this thread! If you aren’t already set up to submit changes to the MusicBrainz database, people here will be happy to help you get started.
This is 1 of two.
The Color Purple* (soundtrack), 1985, Quincy Jones
Disk 2, track 12 - Maybe God Is Tryin’ to Tell You Somethin’ - 4:38
Is attributed to ft. Mahalia Jackson which is incorrect. The correct artist is Tatá Vega.
The soundtrack was composed, recorded and released in the 80’s. Mahalia Jackson died in 1972.
Can you check on that?
I think that you’re referring to Release “The Color Purple” by Quincy Jones - MusicBrainz (and also the 1986 vinyl and 2005 CD releases in the same release group), right? I’m not sure where the Mahalia Jackson credit came from – @aerozol, do you remember (based on Edit #39828568 - MusicBrainz)? From Discog’s blurry liner notes from a vinyl release, Tatá Vega looks like a more appropriate featured artist; I don’t see any mention of Mahalia Jackson there.

I have another obscure CD for the database
The Only Opera CD You’ll Ever Need. 98 Tracks most under a minute. I also found it at Various Artists Only Opera CD You'll Ever Need / CD Rom on Collectors' Choice Music.com.
I have a file with all the track listings, artists, length, etc. I could send to you another way as I can’t attach the files here.
Have you tried entering it into the database yourself yet? Beginners Guide - MusicBrainz is a good starting point, particularly the How to Add a Release - MusicBrainz page that it links to.
got it! will do. I wasn’t aware I could do that.
You think you’re safe, and then bad editing from 9 years ago comes back to haunt you…
The source I gave doesn’t have those credited artists, neither do the scans. I have literally no idea where I pulled those from.
Please go ahead and fix as needed
In your defense, I think that the tracklist probably came from Release “The Color Purple” by Quincy Jones - MusicBrainz, which looks like it originated in 2004 from the ever-reliable () FreeDB. I can’t tell when the featured artist credit was introduced, possibly due to NGS activity that isn’t shown in the edit history. None of the releases seem to list any featured artists, so I’m not convinced they should even be included in the tracklists, but I’ve switched the credit to Táta Vega on all three releases since she’s at least listed as a performer in the liner notes.
