Entering only genre information and foldering music

First of all, hello everyone and good day. I’m new among you. Thanks to the MusicBrainz program, I have solved a problem that I have been researching for a long time. I am very happy for that. But I still have shortcomings. To explain briefly, I want to folder the music files close to 3 tb in my archive according to their genres. Write it as a label and move it as a folder. How do I set this up? Or what are the required plugins? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, I’m sorry if this has been asked before, I looked at almost every topic with genre in the title and didn’t find anything. I want to scan/analyse my music and add ONLY genre tags (since my music is mostly electronic and there are a lot of single releases that often get added to some weird collections/wrong albums). Is this possible? I didnt find anything in the options, maybe with a taggerscript (I don’t really understand how to create those). Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

How to preserve all but one or two specific tags

I’m new to MusicBrainz Picard. I was wondering how one would go about preserving all tags (i.e. leaving previously blank tags blank) with the exception of the %album% and %tracknumber% tags. Would a script do this or would it require something else? Thanks in advance.

Adding missing genre tags to lots of MP3 files

It doesn’t by default, this needs to be enabled in the options under Metadata > Genres. If you enable “Use genres from MusicBrainz” the rest of the defaults should be fine in most cases. Please note that Picard currently is not really good at changing only a single tag, as it is meant to update your files with the data provided by MusicBrainz. If you don’t want Picard to touch other tags you need to add those tags you don’t want to get overwritten to the “Preserved tags” list in Options > Meta…

Regarding the naming you can use the %genre% variable in your file naming script to place the genre information in the file name.

Note that there can be multiple genres and that genres can be per track, so probably not a good idea to use genres as part of the folder name. But using it as part of the file name should be ok then.

If you want to use only a single genre you can limit the number of genres Picard loads from MB in the options (Metadata > Genres). If you limit this to one genre Picard will only load the most upvoted genre the loaded track or release. There is currently no good way to get only the most generic genres (such as pop, rock, jazz, metal) if that is what you are looking for.
