Does editing scrobbles affect listens?

If i edit scrobbles, does these changes affect my listens?

To clarify, I assume that you mean that if you edit your last.fm scrobbles, will those changes also affect the same listens on the LB side, when you have connected last.fm via ‘connect services’?

Interesting question! I also don’t know…

I thought the Last.fm import was a point in time import, not a ever-forward sync?

There’s a new importer! Now it’s a “constant” connection.

Recently I had the following sequence of events:

  1. I scrobbled something at Last.fm (time = t1).
  2. I was listening to something on Bandcamp (without scrobbling).
  3. I scrobbled something else at Last.fm (time = t2).
  4. Scrobbles were automatically imported to ListenBrainz.
  5. I added what I was listening to on Bandcamp to Last.fm with timestamps between t1 and t2.

The scrobbles between t1 and t2 added in point 5. were never imported automatically later on. Deleting past scrobbles on Last.fm doesn’t appear to remove them from ListenBrainz either.

So from my experience it appears that the automatic importer only looks at what happened since the time of the last import, not at entire user’s listening history (wouldn’t that be very expensive?). Because of that I doubt edits of past scrobbles are detected and automatically updated.

I also encountered this problem: Problem with the new last.fm connect

I avoid this by simply not caring that much about the accuracy of the timestamp of the scrobbles when manually adding scrobbles (for example, with openscrobbler.com).

Yes. I can confirm that the new importer (connected service) has this behavior.

For instance, if you listen to some tracks from an offline device, then listen to some other tracks online on another device, and then the first device goes online and sends its cached scrobbles to Last.fm, those intermediate scrobbles won’t make it to ListenBrainz.
